Navigating a breakup, friendship problems or family dilemmas? These comforting advice podcasts have got your back.
Do you ever get the feeling that no matter how hard you try, you’re just not doing life quite right? With so much on our plates, trying to keep our family, friendships, relationships and mental and physical health in check can feel like quite the challenge, so it’s no surprise that we often seek wisdom from those around us.
But here’s the thing: our friends might be busy, struggling and overwhelmed too. Enter: advice podcasts. Combining anonymity with the convenience of simply popping them in our ears whenever we need them, they’re no substitute for a glass of wine with friends, but they can still provide comfort, guidance and clarity on life’s uncertain situations. With shows hosted by relationship experts to comedians, here are nine podcasts helping us muddle through.
Laid Bare
Got a sex or relationship dilemma you feel too awkward to ask your friends about? This podcast for the sex-positive and opinionated, hosted by Oloni, sex educator and author of The Big O, will help you solve it.
That’s So Retrograde
Effortlessly merging pop culture and wellness, Elizabeth Kott and Stephanie Simbari of That’s So Retrograde seek out their most authentic selves one mistake – or mindful awakening – at a time, while graciously bringing their listeners along for the ride. The show may have stopped releasing new episodes in 2021, but the hilarious archives are well worth a listen.
Girls Gotta Eat
Should you ditch the apps and meet people in the wild? How do you get over a breakup when you feel like you’re gonna die? These are all topics discussed on Girls Gotta Eat, a comedy podcast about dating, sex and relationships co-hosted by Ashley Hesseltine and Rayna Greenberg.
Dear Sugars
Dear Sugars — the cult-favorite advice column from The Rumpus — is back, but this time speaking right into your ears. Hosted by Cheryl Strayed and Steve Almond, the podcast fields all your questions — no matter how deep or dark — and offers radical empathy in return.
@lexie
Alongside host Lexie Lombard, this coming-of-age podcast will help you to answer real-life questions and explore your daydreams too.
Am I Normal? With Mona Chalabi
We all want to know if we’re normal. Do I have enough friends? Should it take me this long to get over my ex? Should I move or stay where I am? Endlessly curious data journalist Mona Chalabi needs to know, and she’s ready to dive into the numbers to get some answers.
Where Should We Begin? With Esther Perel
Listen to the incomparable therapist Esther Perel counsel real couples as they reveal the most intimate, personal and complicated details of the conflicts that have brought them to her door.
The Receipts Podcast
The Receipts Podcast is a fun, honest podcast fronted by three girls who are willing to talk about anything and everything. From relationships to situationships to everyday life experiences, you can expect unadulterated girl talk with no filter.
The Estée Lalonde Show
First launched as the On The Line podcast in 2018, no subject is off limits on The Estée Lalonde Show. Estée asks all of the questions you’ve always wanted the answers to in a casual and relaxed format.
