Adam Brody and Kristen Bell star in the funny and romantic new Netflix series that’s made for rainy weekends. Which is lucky…

If you were holding out for a late bloom summer, the weather is telling you it’s officially time to give up hope. But I’ve got something to sweeten the deal: Nobody Wants This

The new Netflix romance series launched on Thursday 26 September, and I’m already seeing it all over my social media.  It’s about love in your mid-30s when you know what you want and finding someone to share your life with is high stakes. Plus, it stars two romcom faves we’ve all grown up with: Adam Brody and Kristen Bell.

Here’s why everyone’s already obsessed with it.

What is Nobody Wants This about?

Joanne (Bell) is sarcastic and agnostic and always choosing toxic men – then talking about them on the podcast she co-hosts with her sister. Noah (Brody) is a very newly single rabbi. But when the two meet at a dinner party, there’s clearly bucketloads of something there. The series explores the pair’s burgeoning romance, their differing beliefs and what their families think about it all. “Dad’s gay and Mom is still in love with him,” says Joanne of her own parents, while Noah’s family want to protect their golden boy.

The series is written by Erin Foster (a sidenote to any fellow Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills fans: Erin is the daughter of David Foster, who once memorably forbade a sing-along at a dinner party), who converted to Judaism when she met her now husband.

“This show is based on the only good decision I ever made: falling for a nice Jewish boy,” Foster said. “But I realised that being happy is way harder than being miserable – there’s nothing to complain about. So, I created this show based on all the ways that finding the right person can be so hard.”

We all hear that…

Who stars in Nobody Wants This

The high princess of witty romance Kristen Bell (The Good Place) takes the lead as podcaster Joanne, alongside Adam Brody (The O.C.) as Noah. Justine Lupe (Succession’s Willa) stars as Joanne’s sister and podcast co-presenter Morgan. While Veep fans will be thrilled to see Timothy Simons as Noah’s brother.

What are people saying about Nobody Wants This

In short: everybody wants this…

The show currently has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (a good thing, FYI).  Lucy Mangan, writing for The Guardian, says: “Kristen Bell and Adam Brody’s joyous romcom is as funny as When Harry Met Sally,” which is the highest praise imaginable, in my opinion.

The New York Times says: “That smooth romcom fluency, and the feeling that inspires here is something we have been missing, is the most notable thing about Nobody Wants This.”

As for me, I watched one episode and loved it so much that I made myself turn it off so I could truly savour it over the weekend. This is gloriously funny and lovely TV that’s full of chemistry and made to be watched on a Sunday afternoon prostrate on a sofa.
