Choose Love, starring Laura Marano, Avan Jogia and Scott Michael Foster marks Netflix’s first-ever interactive romcom. Here’s everything you need to know.

Cast your mind back to 2018, when Netflix released Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. The interactive thriller, which allowed you to make a series of difficult decisions for the main character, sent audiences wild, eventually winning the 2019 Emmy award for Outstanding Television Movie.

Since then, titles like Cat Burglar and Headspace: Unwind Your Mind have placed the storytelling power well and truly in the hands of the viewers. Now, from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend director Stuart McDonald and Runaway Bride writer Josann McGibbon, comes Choose Love, Netflix’s first-ever romcom to get the interactive treatment.

Excitingly, Choose Love will include several different choice outcomes, allowing viewers to decide which paths the characters take. Here’s everything we know about the series so far.

What is the plot of Choose Love?

The film centres around Cami Conway (played by Saving Zoë’s Laura Marano), a recording engineer who seemingly has everything: the dream job, the dream boyfriend (Scott Michael Foster) and the dream future ahead of her. But Cami has some hesitations about what’s to come.

“Is it just FOMO and the fear of commitment that goes with it?” the official synopsis asks. “Or is she actually missing out on an even better career, perhaps the long-abandoned singing career she once dreamed of? And is Paul the love of her life? What if it’s Rex Galier (Avan Jogia), the sexy British rock star who walks into her studio and becomes irrepressibly smitten? Or could it be Jack Menna (Jordi Webber), her first love, ‘the one that got away’, the idealistic world traveller, who returns home and is ready to rekindle their youthful passion?”

As Cami faces an array of choices, ranging from the innocuous to major ethical dilemmas, we as viewers get to help her decide exactly what to do. The result? A whole bunch of possible storylines… and even multiple endings, depending upon what (and who) you pick, because Cami’s fate is ultimately in your hands.

Is there a trailer for Choose Love?

Yes, there is. The newly released teaser opens with Cami visiting a tarot card reader, confessing to her that while she “loves her life” there’s “something missing”.

Then, as she encounters an old flame, we’re immediately presented with a dilemma: should she kiss him? Of course, the choice we make dictates how the story unfolds, but with plenty of ethical quandaries and tough choices to make, it’s not long before the world she knows starts to crumble around her.
