M&S has kicked off the festive season with a star-studded advert for 2023, featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Zawe Ashton, Hannah Waddingham and Tan France.

Yes, Halloween may only just be over but we’ve already been treated to our first magical Christmas advert, courtesy of none other than M&S. Kicking off the festive season in style, its new campaign Love Thismas (Not Thatmas) features more than a few famous faces to encourage us to enjoy the magic of the season without feeling the pressure.  After all, it’s supposed to be a time for cheer and joy, but it’s all too easy to get wrapped up in the spectacle of it all and forget what really matters.

Set against the vocals of Ray BLK’s version of I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That), the soundtrack encourages us to acknowledge the things we all do – some that we love, and some that we may like doing a little less – that make the holidays a truly magical time with loved ones.

Want to watch Sophie Ellis-Bextor burning down a pile of Christmas cards and Hannah Waddingham shredding an Elf on the Shelf? Take a look for yourself below:

The advert also features Queer Eye presenter Tan France and actor Zawe Ashton encouraging shoppers to do what they want this Christmas, instead of being bound by endless chores, the demands of others and the tyranny of festive perfection.

“I’m sure everyone watching our ad will be able to relate to our fabulous cast of talent who so hilariously bring to life those little moments and dilemmas we all have at Christmas time,” said Anna Braithwaite, M&S’s clothing and home marketing director, of the release.

“Before we created Love Thismas (Not Thatmas), we spoke to hundreds of our customers and they all told us that, at Christmas, they feel this pressure of having to worry about and plan so many things. We know it can often feel like the list is never-ending, so this year we decided to celebrate and empower our customers to just do the things they love.”

We couldn’t agree more.
