The second season of Heartstopper, Netflix’s charming LGBTQ+ coming-of-age series, is set to arrive on our screens this summer.
It’s safe to say that the first series of Netflix’s YA romcom Heartstopper took the world by storm. The show, adapted from Alice Oseman’s much-loved graphic novel series, was an instant hit among fans when it premiered in April last year, scoring a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Shortly after, the streaming service confirmed that a second and a third season was in the works, with Kit Connor and Joe Locke returning as Nick and Charlie.
Now, we’ve been treated to a sneak peek at the upcoming second instalment, with Netflix unveiling the first scene from episode two at its global fan event.
The clip strikes a heartwarming note from the start, with Charlie waking up to find an Instagram message from Nick waiting for him. Now that the pair are officially a couple, it seems that they can’t stop messaging each other: Charlie is fixated on his phone screen as he makes his way into school, and every time he receives a new DM from his boyfriend, a smile breaks out across his face. Cute, right?
Then, when Charlie finally arrives in his classroom, someone places their hands over his eyes. Spoiler alert: it’s Nick, and after they’ve greeted each other, the scene ends.

Speaking about season two earlier this year, executive producer Patrick Walters promised that the new episodes will be “so emotional” because of the amazing work of the Heartstopper cast, who have “evolve[d] their performances in every way”.
Brace yourselves for some (hopefully happy) tears: here’s everything you need to know about Heartstopper season two before it lands on Netflix later this year…

What is Heartstopper about?
For those not yet familiar, Heartstopper follows the story of Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), who begin to develop feelings for each other after sitting together at school.
It’s a touching coming-of-age tale that explores multiple queer relationships in a tender yet thrilling way. The announcement of not just one but two additional seasons provides ample space for Nick and Charlie’s romance to develop, and for audiences to delve deeper into the lives and loves of the rest of the gang.

Who is in the cast of Heartstopper season 2?
As well as Locke and Connor, all of the show’s lead cast members are confirmed to be returning for round two, including – deep breath – William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Sebastian Croft, Tobie Donovan, Rhea Norwood and Jenny Walser.
What’s more, viewers can expect to meet a host of new characters too. According to reports, the cast is welcoming Leila Khan, who will star as Higgs student Sahar Zahid; Jack Barton as Nick’s older brother, David; and Nima Taleghani as Truham teacher Mr Farouk.
Bradley Riches will be back as Truham student James McEwan.
What will happen in season two?
According to a Netflix synopsis, Nick and Charlie will be navigating their new romance while Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) will “face unforeseen challenges” in their relationship. Meanwhile, Tao (William Gao) and Elle (Yasmin Finney) will try to work out “if they can ever be more than just friends”.
With exams round the corner, a promise of a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the group “has a lot to juggle” as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship.
