Here’s why Shelter, the latest Harlan Coben thriller adapted for our screens, should be on your watchlist.
From The Stranger and Stay Close to new release I Will Find You, it’s no wonder that author Harlan Coben is considered the king of pulse-pounding thrillers. So when one of his books is adapted for the small screen, we know we’re going to be in for a darkly dramatic treat.
Following on from the success of Netflix’s Safe, The Innocent and Gone For Good, it’s Coben’s 2011 young adult novel Shelter that is next to get the TV treatment, courtesy of Prime Video.
Watch the trailer for Shelter below:
Shelter follows the story of Mickey Bolitar who, after the sudden death of his father, starts a new life in Kasselton, New Jersey. Mickey quickly finds himself tangled in the mysterious disappearance of a new student at his school, Ashley Kent, which leads to uncovering unimaginable secrets within their quiet suburban community.
With the help of his friends, inventive Spoon and secretive Ema, Mickey pulls back the sleepy facade of Kasselton to reveal a dark underground that may hold the answers to decades of disappearances, deaths and legends – and perhaps even his own complex family history.
Eagle-eyed fans may also notice the connection between Mickey and another of Coben’s popular protagonists, Myron Bolitar, who appears in 11 novels such as Live Wire and Home.
Shelter is set to premiere globally on 18 August exclusively on Prime Video, with new episodes available each Friday, leading up to the season finale on 22 September.
The eight-episode series stars plenty of new talent, including Jaden Michael as Mickey Bolitar, Constance Zimmer as Shira Bolitar, Adrian Greensmith as Arthur “Spoon” Spindell, Abby Corrigan as Ema Winslow, Tovah Feldshuh as Bat Lady, Sage Linder as Rachel Caldwell, Brian Altemus as Troy and more.
