More body-switching madness is on its way as a Freaky Friday sequel starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan releases a new trailer.

It may have been over two decades since Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan took to our screens as mother and daughter in Disney’s body-swap comedy Freaky Friday, but the film’s appeal hasn’t waned. For those who need reminding, the film follows Tess (Curtis) and her daughter Anna (Lohan), whose fractured relationship is put under even more stress when they inexplicably switch bodies and are forced to live each other’s lives.

The movie earned more than $160 million at the box office and opened to largely positive reviews in 2003, and has remained beloved among audiences ever since. Which is great news because, 20 years after the original, a sequel has officially wrapped its production and we have a new teaser trailer to get excited about.

Here’s everything you need to know about Freakier Friday, including the new trailer starring Lohan and Curtis as their iconic characters once again.

What is the plot of Freakier Friday?

The sequel will pick up with Anna as a single mother to a 14-year-old daughter. When Anna becomes engaged to Eric, she prepares to welcome his own daughter into her family. Apparently, the film will see Anna and her mother, Tess, both trading places with the two teen girls. That’s right – we’re looking at a double body-swap. And yes, we will once again get to see Curtis giving an iconic performance as a teen in a woman’s body.

Who stars in Freakier Friday?

Both Lohan and Curtis are set to reprise their roles for the new film, with Elyse Hollander writing the script and Nisha Ganatra (who has directed episodes of And Just Like That, Dollface and Brooklyn Nine-Nine).

Other returning cast members from the original film include Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao. They are joined by Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.

When will Freakier Friday be released?

The film is set to land in cinemas on 8 August, which means there isn’t too long to wait until Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice…

The sequel comes after a few successful years for both Lohan and Curtis. Lohan made her big screen comeback with 2022 festive flick Falling For Christmas and returned to Netflix with Irish Wish and Our Little Secret. Curtis won her first ever Oscar in 2023 for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
