Rumours of a sequel began to circulate back in February of last year when Curtis posted a picture of herself and Lohan on Instagram with the caption: “It’s Friday. I’m just sayin! Freaky fingers crossed!”

Since then, production on the project has begun in Los Angeles. Both Lohan and Curtis are set to reprise their roles for the new film, with Elyse Hollander writing the script and Nisha Ganatra (who has directed episodes of And Just Like That, Dollface and Brooklyn Nine-Nine).

Other returning cast members from the original film include Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao. They are joined by Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.
