Nearly two decades on, viewers are getting another film in the iconic Twisters universe. You may remember the 1996 classic with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt but the storm-chasing adventure is getting a sequel of sorts. The 2024 film won’t have the same characters but it does follow a similar storyline – namely that there are lots of people attempting to navigate a raging storm.

The sequel promises to be one of the summer’s big blockbusters so here’s everything to know so far about Twisters, including a look at the new trailer.

What is the plot of Twisters?

The film follows Kate Carter, a former storm chaser haunted by a traumatic encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storms behind the safety of a screen. However, she’s lured back into the storm chasing life by her friend Javi to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. In the field, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens – the charming and somewhat reckless social media star who posts his storm-chasing adventures online.

“As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives,” reads the synopsis.

Who will star in Twisters?

Daisy Edgar-Jones will star as Kate with Glen Powell taking on the role of Tyler and Anthony Ramos will play Javi. The rest of the cast is rounded out by Nope’s Brandon Perea, Sasha Lane (American Honey), Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina), Nik Dodani (Atypical) and Maura Tierney (Beautiful Boy).

When will Twisters be released?
