Whether they’re pursuing that cursed Kool-Aid film or attempting to coax Ron Howard into cutting the three-hour movie that makes someone want to “drill a hole into my brain to kill the part of me that senses time”, Matt’s team is more prone to infighting than pulling together to make the magic happen.

There’s Ike Barinholtz’s Sal, the established creative exec who knows how to shmooze; Quinn (Chase Sui Wonders), the ambitious former PA; Maya (Kathryn Hahn), the outrageously combative head of marketing; and Patty Leigh (a perennially perfect Catherine O’Hara), the beloved studio boss and mentor that Matt has unceremoniously replaced.

The sheer talent of this comedy lineup should be reason enough alone to tune in. If that’s somehow not enough starpower for you, though, it’s worth noting that Rogen has mined his inexhaustible list of contacts to pack this production full of brilliant cameos: think Zoë Kravitz, Olivia Wilde, Dave Franco, Anthony Mackie, Steve Buscemi, Martin Scorcese and Severance’s Adam Scott, to name just a few.

They all know that they’re there to be mocked mercilessly, and they’re all game for it. All, too, are more than happy to gnaw the hand that feeds them with barely concealed, almost feral joy. And yet, despite all the blood and sweat and endless cynicism that goes into it, The Studio is, at its heart, a love letter to Hollywood… warts and surgical scars and all.
