The new film will see Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel team up with two unlikely new allies in order to defeat a powerful foe…

Are you ready to meet your new favourite all-female superhero gang? The Marvels is due out this month, and, yes, we are seriously excited for the latest big-screen outing of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel.

Larson’s character, Carol Danvers, starred in her very own standalone movie back in 2019, which broke box office records as it became the first female-led superhero movie to pass the $1 billion mark.

Since then, she has cropped up in Avengers: Endgame, cameoed in Shang-Chi And The Ten Rings and briefly appeared in Disney+ series Ms Marvel. Now, she’s back, and joined by two other fan-favourite characters.

Watch the trailer for The Marvels below:

As you can see, the film will see Carol join forces with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), who previously appeared in WandaVision back in 2021 and is currently on a mission for Avengers boss Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson).

When our OG Captain Marvel tries to use her superpowers, though, something strange happens: suddenly, she swaps places with Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), aka Ms Marvel. The trio’s powers, it seems, are entangled, and they will have to work together in order to face down a new foe.

Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming superhero movie…

Who is in the cast of The Marvels?

Alongside Larson, Jackson, Parris and Vellani, The Marvels will star Park Seo-Joon, who is rumoured to be playing Prince Yan, and Zawe Ashton looks set to make her Marvel debut as the villainous Dar-Benn, a Kree warrior.

What is The Marvels about?

According to a synopsis from Marvel, at the start of the film Carol “has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence”. However, “unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilised universe”.

When her duties take her to “an anomalous wormhole”, somehow her powers become entangled with those of Kamala Khan, a teenage Captain Marvel super-fan, and of astronaut Monica Rambeau (who also happens to be the daughter of Carol’s friend Maria, played by Lashana Lynch).

Together, “this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels”.

When is The Marvels released in cinemas?

The Marvels lands in UK cinemas on 10 November 2023. That’s just enough time to refresh our memory on the sprawling MCU and get up to speed with Monica and Kamala’s back stories, in WandaVision and Ms Marvel respectively…
