Fans of wry humour and car chases, assemble: Apple TV+ The Instigators might just be your next must-watch.

Starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck – who reunite after playing jewel thieves in Ocean’s 11 back in 2001 – and Kinds Of Kindness star Hong Chau, it follows a misguided heist and fugitive run, with a rather unimpressed therapist in tow for the latter. Call us intrigued.

A lot of action-packed fun, in other words. It’s directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr And Mrs Smith) and the screenplay was co-written by Casey Affleck, alongside Chuck Maclean. 

Here’s everything we know about the Apple TV+ heist movie so far.

Matt and Cobby are fugitives on an escape mission. Unusually, they decide to take a therapist (Hong Chau) along with them.

The plot synopsis reads as follows: “Rory (Matt Damon) and Cobby (Casey Affleck) are reluctant partners: a desperate father and an ex-con thrown together to rob a corrupt politician’s ill-gained earnings. 

“But when the heist goes wrong, the two find themselves engulfed in a whirlwind of chaos, pursued not only by police but also by backward bureaucrats and vengeful crime bosses. Completely out of their depth, they convince Rory’s therapist to join their riotous getaway through the city, where they must put aside their differences and work together to evade capture — or worse.”

Joining Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Hong Chau will be Caylee Cowan, Richie Moriarty, Jack Harlow, Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, Toby Jones, Jack Harlow and Ron Perlman.

After a brief release in US cinemas, it will drop on Apple TV+ globally on 9 August.
