Few actors are able to properly embody a character with the creepiness and terrifying nature required for a great thriller but James McAvoy certainly can. We’ve seen him in the likes of Split and Glass, and now he’s taking on another intense and suspenseful thriller in Speak No Evil.
If you recognise the title and premise of the film, that’s because this is a remake of the 2022 Danish film Gæsterne, which was popular with fans of the psychological thriller genre.
McAvoy is set to play an alpha-male estate owner whose untrammelled hospitality masks an unspeakable darkness. Intrigued? Here’s everything you need to know so far about Speak No Evil, including a new trailer.
What is the plot of Speak No Evil?
The original film follows married couple Bjørn and Louise and their daughter Agnes as they travel abroad to Italy. While on holiday, they meet another couple, Patrick and Karin, and their son Abel, who is a similar age to Agnes.
“When an American family is invited to spend the weekend at the idyllic country estate of a charming British family they befriended on vacation, what begins as a dream holiday soon warps into a snarled psychological nightmare,” reads the official synopsis.
Who stars in Speak No Evil?
The new film stars McAvoy as Paddy, Aisling Franciosi (Game Of Thrones, The Fall) as his wife, Ciara, and Dan Hough as their mute son, Ant.
Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate) and Scoot McNairy (Argo, A Quiet Place Part II) star as American couple Louise and Ben Dalton and their 11-year-old daughter, Agnes, will be played by Alix West Lefler.
Speak No Evil is written for the screen and directed by James Watkins and is based on the screenplay of Gæsterne, written by Christian Tafdrup and Mads Tafdrup.
When will Speak No Evil be released?
The film will be released in cinemas on 12 September. In the meantime, you can watch the eerie new trailer below.
