Over 20 years after the release of Bridget Jones’s Diary, Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant return to the world of Bridget Jones for a fourth film. And we finally have a trailer.
Just when we thought we might’ve seen the last of Bridget Jones – walking down the aisle to Mark Darcy, finally – it was confirmed that a fourth Bridget Jones film was officially on its way, with several of our favourite characters reportedly reprising their roles. And now, we know that filming has wrapped and an official trailer is finally with us.
What is the fourth film about?
The new film will be based on the fourth book in Helen Fielding’s series, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, which sees Bridget in her early 50s navigating the world of social media and dating apps as a single mother of two young children.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Renée Zellweger will, of course, be reprising the lead role, while Hugh Grant will return as love interest Daniel Cleaver. But there’s no word yet on whether Colin Firth will make an appearance as Mark Darcy. In the book, Mark is revealed to have died, leaving Bridget a widow.
We last saw Bridget and Mark in the 2016 film Bridget Jones’s Baby, where Bridget decides to focus on her singledom and career, only to be surprised by a pregnancy that has two possible fathers: Mark Darcy and Patrick Dempsey’s Jack Qwant. The third film ends in a seemingly happy way, tying up many of its loose strings.
Who will star in the fourth Bridget Jones film?
Alongside Zellweger and Grant, Emma Thompson is set to return. In Bridget Jones’s Baby she played Dr Rawlings, Jones’s despairing obstetrician. Chiwetel Ejiofor and romcom actor of the moment Leo Woodall are also joining, with the latter rumoured to be playing Jones’s younger love interest.

When will Bridget Jones 4 be released?
Unfortunately, we’ve got a little while to wait. The film will be released on Valentine’s Day next year (14 February 2025). It’ll be available in the US on streaming channel Peacock, while here in the UK, it’ll be available in cinemas. In the mean time, dive back into the world of Bridget Jones with a new trailer.
