From Cillian Murphy returning as Tommy Shelby to a surprise appearance from Stephen Graham’s Hayden Stagg, here’s everything we know about the Netflix film version of Peaky Blinders.
Peaky Blinders may have ended with an explosive final season in 2022 but that hasn’t stopped us waiting with bated breath to find out if we’ll see more of Tommy Shelby and co. A couple of years on and the news we’ve been waiting for has been confirmed: a Peaky Blinders film is coming to our screens.
The project has, understandably, caused plenty of excitement among fans, because not only will Cillian Murphy reprise his role as Birmingham gangster Tommy Shelby on the big screen, plenty of beloved characters have been confirmed to return too.
One character we’re particularly ecstatic to meet again is Hayden Stagg, played by none other than Stephen Graham. As of today, Netflix have confirmed he’ll be joining Sophie Rundle (playing Ada Thorne,) Ned Dennehy (playing Uncle Charlie Strong,) Packy Lee (as Johnny Dogs) and Ian Peck (as Curly) in the feature film.
Intrigued to find out more about what we can expect? Here’s everything we know so far about the Peaky Blinders film so far.
What is the plot of the Peaky Blinders film?
The film will be a continuation of the award-winning saga, set in the lawless streets of Birmingham, but the film will specifically follow the events of World War II, series creator Steven Knight told Netflix. “The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
The last time we saw Tommy Shelby in the season 6 finale, he was riding off on a white horse, intent on starting a new life. What does the new movie hold in store for him? The exact plot is still very much under wraps, but Knight did tease that things are about to go boom — and we expect nothing less from the Shelby clan. “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen,” Knight added. “It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”
In the meantime, you can catch up on the antics of season six with the trailer below or watch the whole thing on BBC iPlayer or Netflix.
Who will star in the Peaky Blinders film?
Tom Harper, who directed episodes in the first season in 2013, will return to helm the film, along with writer and co-producer Steven Knight. Of the film, Knight said: “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full on Peaky Blinders at war.”
Alongside protagonist Murphy, Graham and co, confirmed new additions to the cast include Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan, all in as-yet unreleased roles.
