The festive season is finally here and a lot of us have already started the annual watching of Christmas films. It is cosy season, after all. By mid-November, I’d already watched The Holiday and I honestly have zero regrets about my choice.
A huge part of the Christmas season is all the excellent film and TV we get to dive into in the comfort of our homes. As well as circling all our favourite festive TV programmes in the TV guide, there are also lots of new Christmas films coming to streaming platforms this year – especially if you’ve managed to work your way through all the classics.
So, here are the best new festive Christmas films coming to our screens in 2024.
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
Vengeance Most Fowl is Wallace & Gromit’s return to their home at the BBC 16 years after their previous adventure. The feature-length film sees Gromit’s growing concern as Wallace becomes over-dependent on his inventions, which proves justified when Wallace creates a ‘smart gnome’ that seems to develop an evil mind of its own. As events begin to spiral out of control, it’s up to Gromit to put aside his qualms and battle sinister forces, or Wallace may never be able to invent again.
But who could possibly be behind such evil actions?

Dear Santa
Jack Black as the devil? Sounds like comedy magic. The upcoming Paramount+ film follows a boy who still believes in Santa and, determined to prove to his friends that he’s real, writes a letter to Father Christmas. However, a spelling error leads him to accidentally summon Satan (Black).

Nutcrackers
This festive film centres on career-obsessed Michael (Ben Stiller), who arrives three weeks before Christmas to serve as the temporary caregiver for his four unruly nephews until they can get set up with a foster home. He drives out to his sister’s small Ohio town thinking all he needs to do is sign some papers and get back to the city, but it’s not nearly that simple.

Carry-On
If your favourite Christmas film is a Die Hard-style action, then this new Netflix film is for you.
In the new thriller, Taron Egerton plays Ethan Kopek, a TSA agent who’s blackmailed by a mysterious traveller into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight. The high-stakes circumstances are due to Jason Bateman’s sinister villain, whom Ethan initially meets as a voice through headphones that threatens his pregnant girlfriend (Sofia Carson) if he doesn’t comply with instructions. And it only gets more tense…
Release date: 13 December via Netflix
The Night Before Christmas In Wonderland
The film is based on the bestselling book written by Carys Bexington, which mashes up two classic tales: Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland and Clement Clarke Moore’s poem, ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas. The plot features characters from both story worlds including St Nick, voiced by Gerard Butler, The Queen of Hearts voiced by Emilia Clarke and Alice in Wonderland voiced by Simone Ashley.

That Christmas
The Love Actually director, Richard Curtis, is back in his festive era with an animated movie to light up the holiday season. Based on Curtis’ own trilogy of children’s books, That Christmas tells a series of connected tales about family and friends, love and loneliness and Santa Claus making a big mistake. “I hope it’ll remind people of the joy and complexity of Christmas, and some of the joys and comedy and heartbreak of childhood,” Curtis told Netflix’s Tudum.
That Christmas features an all-star cast including Brian Cox, Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker, Lolly Adefope and lots more.

Hot Frosty
Is it possible to fall in love with a snowman? In this new film, absolutely. Two years after losing her husband, Kathy (Lacey Chabert) magically brings a handsome snowman to life. Through his naivete, the snowman, Jack, (played by Dustin Milligan) helps Kathy to laugh, feel and love again, as the two fall for each other just in time for the holidays. And before he melts…

The Merry Gentlemen
Just because it’s Christmas doesn’t mean that we can’t indulge in a little fun. The Merry Gentlemen is the story of a steamy musical revue that just might save Christmas, starring Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray. To save the Rhythm Room, Ashley’s parents’ small-town performing arts venue, she has to stage an all-male, Christmas-themed revue, including the kind, confident and slightly sarcastic Luke. Think Magic Mike but with santa-inspired outfits and snow.

Our Little Secret
In Our Little Secret, Lindsay Lohan finds herself trapped in exactly the type of holiday getaway her character, Avery, was hoping to avoid: a week with her ex-boyfriend Logan (played by Ian Harding). Though they’ve been apart for some time and their current partners are siblings, Logan knows Avery better than anyone else. So, what’s the worst that could happen?

Jack In Time For Christmas
In Prime Video’s festive feature, Jack Whitehall finds himself stranded in America with just four days to make it back to the UK for Christmas. “With time ticking away, Jack embarks on an incredible and, some would say, implausible journey involving planes, trains, huskies and bobsleighs. A stockingful of conveniently located famous faces help (and hinder) along the way as Jack navigates the chaos of Christmas and tries to make it home in time,” reads the synopsis.
The comedy special is set to star Michael Bublé, Dave Bautista, Rebel Wilson, Jimmy Fallon, Daisy May Cooper, Tom Davies and many more.
