Fallout: Prime’s smash hit video game adaptation renewed for a second season

Prime’s darkly comic post-apocalyptic hit has proved that it’s not just for video game fans.

Video game adaptations seem to be all the rage these days. Last year’s The Last Of Us was one of HBO’s biggest hits, while films such as The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Sonic The Hedgehog, Uncharted and Tomb Raider have all shown that there’s a real appetite for video game-inspired projects.

However, few have been quite so successful as Prime Video’s Fallout: a smash hit that debuted at number one on Prime, the show has been a revelation. Based on the long-running game series about a post-apocalyptic world after a nuclear fallout, the show has won over fans and newcomers alike with its complex characters, thought-provoking political commentary and brilliant world building. Fallout, like The Last Of Us before it, is proof that video game adaptations can be truly excellent.

So, it comes as no surprise to learn that the show has just been green-lit for a second series.

Here’s what we know about Fallout’s second season so far.

What will Fallout season 2 be about?

If you’re anything like us, you’ve already raced through the seven-episode first season of Fallout. The show follows Lucy, a vault dweller, who leaves the safety of her underground home to find her kidnapped father in the irradiated Wasteland above – and on her journey, she discovered that her core belief in humanity’s goodness might have a few flaws.

While we don’t know what’s coming next, the creative team have already started plotting out the arc for the second season.

“The challenge, especially with television, is in success, the hope that you get to go again,” said director Jonathan Nolan to The Wrap. “But I think the reality is your best strategy is to concentrate on making a terrific season and television and if there’s an opportunity to keep going, and there’s sufficient interest, then you get a chance to keep going.”

He added, “But I think at the same time, you’d be remiss, almost irresponsible to not have started to talk about where your story could take you. So we have been talking from the beginning about how this would develop and evolve in subsequent seasons, if we should be so lucky.”

Co-showrunner Graham Wagner added that one thing they definitely plan on including is a few Deathclaws, the iconic monsters from the original games.

We can also expect to delve into Moldaver’s (Sarita Choudhury of And Just Like That fame) past. “I would love [to explore that],” said Nolan to IGN. “I would love to spend a little more time. Yeah. Sarita’s a lovely human being, fantastic actor, and I think picking up that story would be great fun.”

Who will star in Fallout season 2?

So far, none of the cast have been confirmed. But we can hope to see series leads Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Aaron Clifton Moten, Kyle MacLaughlan and Sarita Choudhury all returning to their roles.

When will Fallout season 2 be out?

With the first season only just released on Prime and the second season recently green-lit, it will probably be a while before the second season reaches our screens.
