Cinema For Gaza, an online auction that supports humanitarian work in Gaza, features prizes from the likes of Nicola Coughlan, Colin Firth, Stanley Tucci, Tilda Swinton and Josh O’Connor.
Cinema For Gaza has commenced its first online auction to support the urgent humanitarian work conducted by Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) in Gaza. Since opening for bids yesterday, the organisation has already raised over £40,000.
Featuring prizes donated by the likes of Tilda Swinton, Colin Firth, Stanley Tucci and Jonathan Glazer, the auction features a treasure trove of goodies for film-lovers. Lots include a cup of tea with Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn, a porridge tutorial from Josh O’Connor and an astrology chat with Sex Education’s Aimee Lou Wood.
Other contributors include Ramy Youssef, Peter Capaldi, Charlie Brooker, Imelda Staunton, Brian Cox, Louis Theroux, Mike Leigh, Misan Harriman, Harris Dickinson, Joanna Hogg, Morfydd Clark, Nicola Coughlan, Annie Lennox, Jon Ronson and Josh O’Connor.
The campaign was launched by film journalists, publicists and filmmakers Hannah Farr, Hanna Flint, Julia Jackman, Leila Latif, Sophie Monks Kaufman and Helen Simmons.
“The group was formed in February and we’ve actually never all been in the same room together,” Latif tells us. “This is entirely a labour of love with no budget or assets beyond good will from colleagues. We’ve been reaching out to every contact we have with the idea of creating a cinema-themed list filled with things that are really special.
“Jonathan Glazer came on board the night before the auction went live, just as we were finalising the lots. Seeing that email on the WhatsApp group was one of the greatest moment of the whole thing, possibly of my life!”
Bids can be made on the Cinema For Gaza website until April 12.
