Halle Berry is proud of her body at any age – and her recent Instagram post made sure that her critics know it.

Whether she’s campaigning for ending violence against women or defending herself and her family from shaming, Oscar winner and Hollywood icon Halle Berry has long been an inspiration to many. And her latest social media interaction has prompted widespread praise – and delivered a masterclass in not allowing anyone to dampen your shine.

On Saturday, Berry, 56, shared an empowering photo of herself drinking wine in the nude on a balcony to Instagram. The post, liked over 700,000 times, was immediately met with praise from fans who congratulated her on celebrating her body.

“Putting this on my vision board for my 50s,” shared one. “Your life, your body, your choice,” wrote another.

Unfortunately, not all on the internet had positive feedback. Berry was also subjected to body shaming and ageism by those who criticised her for sharing the image.

“Imagine being in your 50s, still posting nudes for attention in menopause when you should be chilling with the grandkids. Ageing with dignity is no longer a thing,” one Twitter user wrote.

However, not one to be deterred, Berry delivered an effortless and unbothered response to the trolling. “Did you guys know the heart of a shrimp is located in its head?” she wrote in a quote tweet.

We have to stop wanting to look like that decade before. We have to stop coveting that

This is far from the first time Berry has encouraged positivity around ageing.

“We have to stop wanting to look like that decade before. We have to stop coveting that,” she told Yahoo! Life in 2015. “Let it go and embrace it now and really be OK. It’s easy to say, I guess, but that’s the goal.

“And when you do that, I think those women have a light that shines through and you don’t notice wrinkles if they have them so much, because that light is so powerful, and that confidence, and that sense of being, and knowing who you are.”
