As well as classics such as House Of Gucci, there are also a few new additions coming this year to Hollywood’s fashion slate.

Fashion can be a mysterious industry that not many of us are privy to on a regular basis. But thanks to Hollywood and its continued interest in the craft and its famous designers, we have several works of fiction (and documentaries) that shed some light on fashion’s big names, all while providing some style inspiration, of course.

As well as classics such as House Of Gucci, a few new additions are coming this year to Hollywood’s fashion slate. So, we’ve rounded up eight of our stylish favourites to add to your watchlist.

Cristóbal Balenciaga

Following the rise of another of fashion’s most iconic designers, Cristóbal Balenciaga begins in 1937 as the designer moves to Paris, leaving behind a successful career in Spain. However, the designs that were a hit in Spain don’t quite translate to Paris’s fashion empire, especially when compared to the haute couture of Chanel, Dior and Givenchy. “Guided by his obsession for control in all aspects of his life, Cristóbal Balenciaga will define his style and eventually become one of the most important designers of all time.”

Charting the life of Karl Lagerfeld, the French series Kaiser Karl starts off in 1972 when Lagerfeld, aged 38, is a little-known fashion designer. After meeting and falling in love with Jacques de Bascher, he finds himself in competition with Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, the head of the most prestigious fashion brand at the time. Kaiser Karl is a combination of romance, ambition and a quest for recognition.

The new series will tell the story of writer Truman Capote, who surrounded himself with 1970s New York society, and in particular, a set of rich socialites (which included fashion models) nicknamed the Swans. The famous feud kicked off following the release of his crime novel, which propelled the writer into success and fame, becoming one of America’s most well-known writers. He began to socialise with the Swans, befriending them and being trusted with the inner workings of their lives, until he betrayed them by publishing their secrets in Esquire.

Coming to Disney+ in 2024

House Of Gucci

Starring Adam Driver and Lady Gaga, the award-winning film tells the story of Patrizia Reggiani, an outsider from humble beginnings who marries into the Gucci family. Her ambition starts to get in the way of the Gucci fashion empire and triggers a spiral of betrayal, revenge and, eventually, murder.

Available to watch on BBC iPlayer

The Assassination Of Gianni Versace

The second instalment in the American Crime Story series, The Assassination Of Gianni Versace is based on the murder of Versace in 1997 but focuses on the murderer, Andrew Cunanan, rather than the crime itself. The series switches between past and present as the drama explores the backstory of Cunanan and his relationship to the Versace family as well as the events that followed the murder.

Available to watch on Disney+

Saint Laurent

The untimely death of Christian Dior launched the career of one of the biggest names in fashion, Yves Saint Laurent, as he became the head of design at the House of Dior. Starring the late Gaspard Ulliel as the designer, the film is set between the 1960s and 1970s as Saint Laurent navigates the world of fashion as well as his relationships and personal struggles.
