After years of speculation, the iconic Samantha Jones will officially return to the Sex And The City franchise.
You would be hard pressed to find a more glamorous and admired TV character than Samantha Jones: the iconic power-suit wearing, dirty talking PR maven who always stole the scene in Sex And The City with her classic one liners and witty repartee. And as much as we enjoyed the first season of HBO’s revival And Just Like That and the return of Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda as a trio, we’re not afraid to admit that it just wasn’t the same without her.
With the second season arriving in June, it seems that we won’t have to miss her for much longer. As per Variety, after years of speculation as to whether we’d ever see Samantha on our screens again, actor Kim Cattrall will reprise her role in the season two finale.
However, before you get too excited, it’s worth pointing out that she’s only set to appear in one scene.
In the first season, we learned that Cattrall’s character had moved to London and was distant from the group after a disagreement. Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie did engage with an estranged Samantha over text, and in the finale, the two made a plan to see each other in order to reconcile.
The new scene will show Samantha having a phone conversation with Carrie; however, sources claim that Cattrall shot her dialogue without seeing or speaking to the stars of the series, including Parker and showrunner Michael Patrick King. Interestingly, though, legendary costume designer Patricia Field, who has not been working on And Just Like That, dressed Samantha for her scene.

Cattrall has taken steps to distance herself from the franchise over recent years. After six seasons of the hit show and two feature-length movies, she turned down the chance to reprise her character for a third film, which was consequently cancelled. “It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough,” Cattrall told Variety in 2022. “I also didn’t want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear.”
When the spin-off was announced, Parker also addressed Cattrall’s absence. “We did not ask her to be part of this because she made it clear that that wasn’t something she wanted to pursue, and it no longer felt comfortable for us, and so it didn’t occur to us,” she said. “That’s not ‘slamming’ her, it’s just learning.”
While it may not be the full-blown reconciliation many fans were hoping for, whether she appears for 10 seconds or 10 minutes, we’re looking forward to seeing Samantha Jones once more.
