If you enjoyed Scoop, you’ll love this new Prime Video series that dissects the history-making Newsnight interview between Prince Andrew and journalist Emily Maitlis.

You don’t need us to tell you about the power of journalism: we know very well the importance of telling great stories and holding those in positions of authority accountable.

Hot on the heels of Netflix series Scoop, released earlier this year, comes A Very Royal Scandal, telling the story of that monumental Newsnight interview between Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew about his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre.

This series is part of the A Very… Scandal anthology series that also includes A Very English Scandal, with Hugh Grant as politician Jeremy Thorpe, and A Very British Scandal, about the divorce of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll and starring Paul Bettany and Claire Foy.

Here’s what we know about it so far, including a brand new trailer.

What is the plot of A Very Royal Scandal?

In 2019 Prince Andrew agreed to do an interview for the BBC’s Newsnight about the mounting scandal over his friendships with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Ruth Wilson stars as journalist Emily Maitlis while Michael Sheen plays Prince Andrew, and his transformation here is eerily uncanny.

The series will examine how the interview was secured, the details that emerged in the conversation between Maitlis and Prince Andrew and the shockwaves that rippled around the world and changed both of their lives.

Maitlis is also an executive producer of the three-part drama, so expect lots of insider info on the workings of a newsroom to keep you hooked.

Who stars in A Very Royal Scandal

Sheen and Wilson will also be joined by the amazing Joanna Scanlan (After Love, Notes On A Scandal) as Amanda Thirsk, Prince Andrew’s private secretary. The cast also includes Alex Jennings (Your Christmas Or Mine?) as Sir Edward Young, Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment) as Stewart Maclean and Claire Rushbrook (Secrets & Lies) as Sarah Ferguson.

When and where can I watch A Very Royal Scandal?

The three-part series will premiere on Prime Video on 19 September, so not long to wait. In the mean time, there’s a brand new trailer to tide us over until then.
