This week, Helen Bownass gets us ready for a returning favourite, while Kayleigh Dray worships at the altar of a British icon (after sharing four new titles to add to your must-watch list)…

American Murder: Gabby Petito

A dreamy converted camper van, a nomadic lifestyle and a seemingly happy relationship – Gabby Petito’s life looked perfect from the outside. But when her #VanLife vlog fell silent in 2021 and her fiance, Brian Laundrie, returned to Florida without her, people around the world began questioning what had really happened to the vibrant young woman they felt they knew from social media. This three-part documentary moves beyond the media frenzy, blending archival footage with interviews from Petito’s family and friends to reveal the reality of a young woman trapped in an abusive relationship behind closed doors. Monday 17 February; Netflix

Gaza: How To Survive A Warzone

“Have you ever wondered what you’d do if your world was destroyed?” asks Abdullah, the 13-year-old narrator of this unflinching yet vital documentary. Alongside three other young people, he guides us through the harsh realities of life in the so-called ‘safe zone’ of Gaza as he struggles to survive a conflict that has dominated the news cycle for over a year – while tentatively looking toward a future after the ceasefire. Monday 17 February; BBC Two and BBC iPlayer

Zero Day

Somewhat unsurprisingly, terrifying political thrillers are fast becoming 2025’s calling card. This one, starring Robert De Niro as a beloved and highly respected former US president, is set in the aftermath of a devastating cyberattack. With thousands dead, disinformation running rampant and the world in crisis, President George Mullen must risk everything he holds dear to uncover the truth… before it’s too late. Is anyone else worried this one might hit too close to the bone? Thursday 20 February; Netflix

Dope Girls

Ready to journey back to a forgotten moment in history? Set in the wake of the first world war, Dope Girls takes us into the dark underbelly of Soho, ruled by powerful women through nightclubs, drugs and moonshine. From businesswomen and bohemian dancers to gangsters and undercover police officers, this gritty period drama delivers ferocious female energy from start to finish. Starring Julianne Nicholson, Eliza Scanlen, Eilidh Fisher and Umi Myers. Saturday 22 February; BBC One and BBC iPlayer

Can we all just admit Stephen Graham is the GOAT?

Stephen Graham, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways,” says Kayleigh. “The star of the much-anticipated A Thousand Blows has been stealing scenes for as long as I can remember; The Bill, Coronation Street, Band Of Brothers, This Is England, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Snatch, those Arctic Monkeys music videos – honestly, if you look for him, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that Stephen Graham is actually all around.

“It was his Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire that did it for me. From there, it was one jaw-dropping performance after another: Line Of Duty, HelpPeaky Blinders, Time – absolute magic, every single time. And now, thanks to his standout performances in Boiling Point, Bodies, Blitz and (ahem) Matilda: The Musical, the man has seen his star launched into the stratosphere.

“The most hardworking and humble man in Hollywood has got no fewer than seven new projects on the go (including The Immortal Man – the much-anticipated Peaky Blinders movie – and Adolescence, which is coming to Netflix in March), and I’m already counting down the minutes until the aforementioned A Thousand Blows drops on Disney+. Because, yes, a gritty thriller about the dark underbelly of boxing in 1880s Victorian London – helmed by Stephen Knight and featuring an all-women crime gang – is exactly what the doctor ordered this miserable February.

“So, sure, Stephen is a phenomenal actor. What I love more than his obscene talent, though, is that he’s just so… real. He shops at Co-Op, chats to random strangers about his heavy-hitting scenes and proudly reps his Scouse accent. Plus, with his production company, Matriarch, which he co-founded with his wife, Hannah Walters, he’s using his place in the spotlight to create opportunities for people who didn’t go down the drama school route.

“Bottom line: Stephen Graham is a national treasure, and I’m a proud Stephinator for life. Who’s with me?” A Thousand Blows is coming to Disney+ on 21 February.

... the return to The White Lotus

After a two-and-a-half-year wait, we’re back for another holiday with horrible rich people. And while the queen of excess, Tanya (Jenifer Coolidge), won’t be checking in after she (spoiler) fell overboard while fending off “these gays… trying to murder me”, there are lots of juicy new cast members to get invested in as they try to spend themselves happy in Thailand. Here’s who’s who…

The (not quite) hippies

Older man meets younger girl is a tale as old as time, and here we have Rick (Walton Goggins) being encouraged to lighten up and have a facial by his girlfriend, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), because “the lady in the airport thought you were my dad”.

The dysfunctional family

Lorazepam-popping Victoria (Parker Posey) and businessman Timothy (Jason Isaacs) are playing at happy families with their tech-bro son Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger); daughter Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook), who’s writing a thesis on Buddhism; and youngest son Lochlan (Sam Nivola), who doesn’t know who he is. However, a major white-collar crime threatens to pop their wealthy bubble.

The girls on the razz

Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan), a famous TV actor, reunites with old school friends Laurie (Carrie Coon), a successful lawyer, and Kate (Leslie Bibb), a stay-at-home mum, and they’re dealing (or failing to deal) with their shifting relationships.

The returner

They take with one hand (Tanya) and give with another, so let’s count our blessings for the return of spa manager Belinda (played to perfection by Natasha Rothwell). After being promised the world by Tanya, which we suspect never materialised, she’s in Thailand on an exchange programme to learn about the spa. The White Lotus is coming to Sky on 16 February.
