Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge is releasing a new book

Fleabag fans, rejoice! Creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge has some exciting news about a new book.

Since starting life as a one-woman show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2013, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag has become something of a phenomenon for millennial women everywhere.

The second series of the television adaptation was one of this year’s entertainment highlights (thanks in part to that scene with Hot Priest). Waller-Bridge’s razor-sharp writing was, arguably, at its finest and funniest. Alas, she has since confirmed that there won’t be a third series.

However, she did later announce a very limited revival of the Fleabag stage show. But, unsurprisingly, tickets sold out quicker than hot pies (although you can still enter the lottery for £15 tickets here).

Fleabag series one and two are still available to stream on BBC iPlayer, but what about the fans who want more? How can we fill the little Waller-Bridge-shaped holes in our lives? What if all we want is the thrill of another “KNEEL”?

Well, The Bookseller has now confirmed that a Fleabag book is on its way – with new writing - after winning an eight-way bidding war. Sceptre will publish Fleabag: Scriptures by Waller-Bridge.

The book will feature the new writing alongside the complete TV scripts of both seasons from the BBC Three series, including previously unseen stage directions. Waller-Bridge will also do publicity in London to support the book’s release, which might mean more opportunities to meet her and hear about her genius.

And it looks like we won’t have long to wait to get our hands on a copy. Fleabag: Scriptures will be published simultaneously in the UK and US on 5 November 2019, retailing at £20 in hardback with an e-book version also available.

Of course, Waller-Bridge is also working on other huge projects. Her other BBC Three show, Killing Eve, has been commissioned for a third series. Although Emerald Fennell has taken over writing duties, Waller-Bridge recently “joked” about writing herself into one of the episodes

She is also on-board the writing team for the next James Bond film, and has teased about another “very strange” film she has been writing in her head while showering.

We need more Waller-Bridge, so bring it all on.
