Beatrix Potter fans, Peter Rabbit is scampering into a cinema near you.
Yes, there’s a new movie adaptation of The Tale of Peter Rabbit in the works – and, while little is known about the film so far, we do know that it will be a blend of live-action and animation.
Talk show and Carpool Karaoke host James Corden will be lending his voice to Beatrix Potter’s mischievous bunny – a role which we feel he’ll be perfect for, after his stellar performance as the mouse in BBC’s The Gruffalo.
Even more excitingly, however, is the fact that Rose Byrne – yes, Helen from Bridesmaids – is also going to star in the film, as the leading character of "Bea".
As hers is a ‘live-action’ role, many fans have speculated that Byrne will, in fact, be starring as Potter herself.
Daisy Ridley (aka Rey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and The Great Gatsby's Elizabeth Debicki are also set to take up roles in the movie, although their parts remain uncredited at this time.
The movie will be directed by Easy A’s Will Gluck, and produced by Animal Logic.
The studio, who previously brought us such gems as Babe and Happy Feet, on are currently following up animated hit The Lego Movie by shooting The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie.
However it seems as if they are more than prepared to give their full attention to the Potter movie.
“There are so many great characters in Beatrix Potter's books that we'll just be scratching the surface for what we can do,” he said.
“It's a big film that will be more than a two-year endeavour for us from go to whoa.”
Better still, the production – which is being filmed in Australia – is being supported by the government of New South Wales, as it will create jobs for 55 local actors and more than 600 crew.
The movie adaptation of The Tale of Peter Rabbit is expected to be released in 2018.
In the meantime, we wonder who they will slot in to play Peter’s fearsome adversary, Mr McGregor…?
