The Buckinghamshire home of the popular children’s author, Enid Blyton, has gone on sale.

The idyllic cottage in Bourne End, fondly baptised Old Thatch, is on the market at £1.85m.

Blyton, known for writing such adored works as NoddyFamous Five and the Secret Seven series, lived in the cottage from 1929 until 1938.

Old Thatch is a 17th Century cottage, with grade II listing. The property consists of four bedrooms, three reception rooms, two bathrooms set in 1.5 acres of land.

The current owners, Jacky and David Hawthorne, have lived in the cottage for two decades, during which time they resigned the gardens and opened them up to visitors. The gardens have since been voted as some of the most beautiful in England.

The beloved children’s author lived in the home with her first husband, Hugh Alexander Pollock, and their two daughters, Gillian and Imogen.

During this time, Blyton penned some of her most famous works and thought-up her most loved characters including The Wishing Chair and the series, Faraway Tree and Brer Rabbit.

Blyton’s books have sold over 600m copies.

The cottage and picturesque surroundings were also the inspiration for Blyton’s work including the series for which it lent its name, Old Thatch, and The Mystery of the Burnt Cottage.

The author was known to adore the house, describing it in her diaries as a “perfect both outside and in…just like a fairy tale house and three minutes from the river.”
