The latest cast member of the Fifty Shades franchise has been announced

We all laughed and cringed our way through the first Fifty Shades film, shamelessly ogling Jamie Dornan while questioning ourselves as feminists.

At times, the script was so uncomfortable (remember Dornan saying “I’m fifty shades of fucked up,” and Anastasia Steele conducting the worst journalistic interview of all time: “Are you gay, Mr Grey?”) And yet, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t secretly looking forward to the second installment.

Along with the original line-up – Dornan, Dakota Johnson, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford and Max Martini  – Universal has just announced the latest actor to join the cast for the second film, Fifty Shades Darker – and it’s none other than Kim Basinger.

Basinger, 63, who shot to international fame after her role in the 1986 9 ½ Weeks and was awarded a best supporting Oscar for L.A Confidential, will be playing the part of Christian’s ex-lover and ex-dom: the elusive ‘Mrs Robinson,’ Elena Lincoln.

The actor, who has never shied away from the more risqué femme fatale roles, is a fitting choice for the part of the part-maternal part-seductress, who seduced Christian Grey years prior to the story’s beginning.

Fifty Shades author, E.L. James excitedly confirmed the news on twitter, saying:

Following alleged disagreements between Sam Taylor Johnson, who directed the first Fifty Shades film, and trilogy writer, E.L. James, the second film will be directed by James Foley.

Production is set to commence in the spring, and the final two films- Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed – will be shot back-to-back.

Now we simply can’t miss the film…
