Always wanted to read Crime and Punishment but told yourself it would take weeks to get through it? Well, a new infographic is here to show you exactly how much time it takes to read some of the most recognisable and widely-loved books (with some surprising results).
The infographic, created by Personal Creations, Taking the average person’s reading speed of 300 words per minute, you can see just how many hours it would take to read the likes of Shakespeare, Homer’s Odyssey and also more contemporary novels such as The Hunger Games.
At the shorter end of the scale are books such as The Great Gatsby (2.62 hours) and The Alchemist (2.18 hours) While further down the list The Time Traveller’s Wifewould take a full working day to read, at 155,717 words.
Towards the bottom are the Harry Potter books, which would take you nearly three full days of non-stop reading to get through all of the seven tomes. But that’s not surprisingly when you consider that the entire series is made up of 1,084,170 words.
And the one that would take you the longest? The Game of Thrones saga by George RR Martin, which would take you a staggering 98.33 hours to read. That’s the equivalent of just over half a week, but that would mean you could never stop. Basically, you’d never eat, or sleep.
Take a look at more books and the time it would take to read them below.
