Bookworms, it’s the news we’ve all been waiting for…

From Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale to Big Little Lies, feminist book adaptations are having something of a moment at the moment, and finally being given the air time they rightly deserve.

And now, one year after its publication, we have learned that Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado is being turned into a TV series, too.

Published in 2017, Machado’s multi award-winning debut collection of horror short stories has been described as “a feminist Black Mirror” due to its gruesome stories, dark fairytales and depiction of women’s fears and desires. And, in a similar vein to The Handmaid’s Tale, Machado’s writing delves into the realities of women’s lives and the violence visited upon their bodies.

Naturally, the author is just as excited about it as we are. Taking to Twitter, Machado shared the news with her followers, writing: “I can finally say something! HER BODY AND OTHER PARTIES is officially in development over at @FXNetworks. FX has made some of my favourite shows in the past few years (Atlanta, The Americans) & I’m ridiculously excited to see what comes next.”

According to Deadline, the TV series will be produced and written by Gina Welch, who’s previously worked on FX’s Feud: Bette and Joan, AMC’s The Terror, and Hulu’s Castle Rock, and other shows.

Since the announcement, scores of people have taken to Twitter to voice their enthusiasm for the show.

“This is wonderful, wonderful news!!! Celebrate everywhere, constantly!,” one user wrote.

Another posted: “Oh wow!! This is amazing, these stories have really stayed with me and I’m excited to experience them in another form.”

As of yet, details of an air date remain scarce, but watch this space.
