A magical Harry Potter supper club exists - and we need to go, ASAP

It’s been 20 years since Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – the book that launched JK Rowling’s hugely successful wizarding series – first apparated into our lives. Back then, we knew nothing about Hogwarts.

Just like Harry himself, we had only ever lived a muggle lifestyle – and so, when we stepped aboard the bright red Hogwarts Express for the first time, we were completely overwhelmed by all the sights, sounds, and smells surrounding us – particularly when the food trolley started trundling towards us at speed. It was packed to the brim with “Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum, Chocolate Frogs, Pumpkin Pasties, Cauldron Cakes, Liquorice Wands, and a number of other strange things Harry had never seen in his life,” noted Rowling – and thus began our literary love affair with the food of the wizarding world.

Remember Harry’s first meal in the Great Hall? We certainly do: the table was groaning under the weight of “roast beef, roast chicken, pork chops and lamb chops, sausages, bacon and steak, boiled potatoes, roast potatoes, fries, Yorkshire pudding, peas, carrots, gravy, ketchup, and, for some strange reason, peppermint humbugs.”

And don’t even get us started on Honeydukes sweetshop, or the frothing mugs of Butterbeer, or every single thing Molly Weasley served up at The Burrow. All of it sounded absolutely delicious, and all of it left us drooling over our well thumbed books.

Which is why we’re so ridiculously excited that a seven-course Harry Potter supper club has launched in London.

That’s right: Covent Garden members’ club The Library is hosting the dinner series to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the books.

Open to both members and non-members alike, the menu boasts Butterbeer, Firewhiskey, an edible Hogwarts letter (think rice paper with a topping of pepper, parsley and squid ink), Devil’s Snare, and plenty more fantastical foodie treats.

Of course, you are fully expected to go in costume: diners are encouraged to dust off their pointed hats and cloaks for the occasion, as well as wear their house colours with pride. And it seems safe to presume that, depending on what the Sorting Hat whispers in your ear, you’ll be sat with your fellow Ravenclaws, Slytherins, Hufflepuffs, and Gyrffindors for the feast.

The Harry Potter dinner series is running every Friday and Saturday night in August and September at The Library – and tickets are already selling out fast (no kidding, almost everyone in the world is a Potterhead).

If you’re desperate to chow down on a magical feast, then make sure you book your place as quickly as possible. Otherwise, why not check out our top tips on how to recreate that dreamy Butterbeer experience from the comfort of your own home? It’s the perfect alcoholic accompaniment to Rowling’s timeless tale...
