When we first settled down to read Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone all those years ago (can you believe it first came out in 1997?), we were transported to a magical new world.
And, for many of us wide-eyed impressionable readers, we couldn’t help but hope that, one day, we would wake up to find an owl tap-tap-tapping at the window, clutching our own Hogwarts acceptance letter.
Tragically, it just wasn’t meant to be.
We were propelled headfirst into adulthood, as fully-fledged muggles without a broomstick or cauldron to call our own.
And, despite the likes of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour allowing us to explore the film set for ourselves, and Florida’s Universal Studios building their own version of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade as a theme-park attraction, we’ve never quite had our childhood dream of attending Hogwarts quite realised.
Until now, that is.
Thanks to the Mimbulus Mimbletonia Association, a group started by two French Harry Potter fans, you can now see what it’s really like to be a first-year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Minus an encounter with Fluffy the three-headed dog, we imagine.
Taking place at the Jolibert Castle in France, the four-day event vows to see you carefully placed in one of the Hogwarts houses in a Sorting Ceremony, as well as given the chance to flex your bewitching skills in Botany, Charms, Potions, and more.
There will also be the chance to play Quidditch and collect points for your house – because, yes, there is a trophy up for grabs.
And, without Gryffindor’s Harry Potter and co around, there’s a chance that Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or (dare we say it?) Slytherin might just have a chance of winning this time around.
The event will take place from 25 May to 28 May 2017, with food and housing provided on-site.
There will also be a Diagon Alley-esque shop available on-site, for students in need of extra potion supplies and quills.
And it’s worth pointing out that some basic knowledge of French may be useful– this event may be inspired by Hogwarts, but it takes place in the same land as Beauxbatons Academy of Magic (aka Académie de Magie Beauxbâtons).
We have a feeling that they’re going to sell out even more quickly than the latest batch of Skiving Snack Boxes from Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes.
Bonne chance, everybody.
