It’s been almost 200 years since he put pen to paper, but Charles Dickens remains one of the world’s most beloved authors.
From Great Expectations to A Christmas Carol, plenty of his works have been adapted for the silver screen – but now it’s been confirmed that Disney are gearing up for their own retelling of Dickens' work.
And they’re giving it a musical twist… pun intended.
Oliver Twist, the wide-eyed orphan who found himself in a whole world of trouble after asking for more, is getting another shot at Hollywood stardom.
Disney have already cast Ice Cube as Fagin, the merry old gentleman pulling the strings of Victorian London’s pickpocketing children.
The reboot is described by The Hollywood Reporter as a "modern musical" that will cross many genres, including hip-hop.
And Ice Cube is set to do more than just act in the project; he’s also co-writing the script with Jeff Kwatinetz, and both men, along with Wicked's Marc Platt, are attached as producers.
As for directing, Hamilton's Tony Kail has been tapped to oversee this musical.

It's safe to say that this reboot of the 1837 tale is in very safe hands.
It’s not the first time that Disney have added their own twist to Dickens’s work; in fact, they already adapted Oliver Twist as an animated movie, 1988’s Oliver and Company.
However the most famous film version of the tale is, without a doubt, the 1968 movie Oliver!, which brought us unforgettable songs from songwriter Lionel Bart.
Think Food, Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, You’ve Got To Pick A Pocket Or Two, and As Long As He Needs Me, to name just a few.
We can’t wait to see what new showtunes Ice Cube and Disney’s version will bring us.
A release date for the film has yet to be confirmed, although we imagine it won't hit cinemas until at least 2018.
