From Britney Spears to Chrissy Teigen, we round-up the stars who have undergone dramatic hair colour transformations.
Sometimes you need to refresh your look and a new nail varnish won’t cut it. Whether it’s a change in season or a change in lifestyle, transforming your hair colour can instil a new sense of self-confidence just like a fresh new cut.
But dyeing hair is not an easy step for everyone. While some of us can’t remember a time we weren’t dyeing our hair - jumping at the chance the moment we became teenagers - the rest of us are still undecided on a shade or dread the thought of pouring a pot of dye on our strands.
This is where we can turn to our favourite celebrities for a few pointers - a group of women who not only change their hair colour frequently for work, but swap and change hair shades for events, from awards season to film festivals. Jennifer Lawrence has undergone a complete transformation throughout her rise to fame, while Britney has recently returned back to her natural brunette. We get a little hair colour inspiration from the stars…
Britney Spears
Although we were first introduced to Britney with her natural light brown hair back in 1998, she’s been known for her long platinum hair throughout her entire career. She just debuted a a new ashy brown shade and face-framing layers on Instagram in a series of selfies, saying that her sister Jamie-Lynn “inspired [her] to go dark.”
Leighton Meester
Leighton Meester has long been associated with her dark brunette hair ever since she first appeared on our screens as Blair Waldorf in hit US show Gossip Girl. So, fans were shocked when the actress took her hair from brunette to platinum blonde earlier this year.
But now, Meester has revealed that she has gone back to her signature brunette look. The actress posted a picture of herself sitting in a coffee shop with her dark hair cut into a lob. Now all that’s missing is a velvet headband…
Paloma Faith
Just a few months ago the singer opted for long, blonde locks.

Faith loves a dramatic transformation, but this might be our favourite one yet: a platinum blonde Lob.

Cheryl Cole
As the face of L’Oreal, Cheryl rarely has a hair out of place – and, while The X Factor judge has experimented with colour in the past, she tends to stick to a rich and deep chocolate-brown hue.
Cheryl Cole
Cheryl may have taken a break from Twitter following the birth of her son, but she returned with a bang in July 2017 when she revealed that she had opted for a bold colour makeover: her chocolate-brown tresses had been lightened and transformed into a sunshine-inspired caramel.
Chrissy Teigen
When asked to picture the model, TV presenter and #nofilters Twitter star, you no doubt focus on her deep brunette waves.

But, in July 2017, Teigen caused a stir when she shared a picture of herself on Twitter with the caption “new colour”. There’s no denying that the bright and summery strawberry-blonde shade is quite a departure from her usual look – but it certainly suits her.
Suki Waterhouse
The British model is well-known for her long, blonde, bohemian mane.

But in October 2014, she debuted her newly dyed brunette locks making her almost unrecognisable.
Jennifer Lawrence
In 2012, two roles threw Jennifer Lawrence into the limelight - Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games and Tiffany in Silver Linings Playbook. Much like her on-screen characters, Lawrence worked darker locks in real-life.

But in late 2013, during the second Hunger Games film tour the star revealed a new blonde pixie crop, saying her hair had been "fried from being dyed so much". She has since worn her hair closer to her natural blonde shade.
Emma Stone
You would be forgiven for thinking Emma Stone is a natural redhead, but whilst filming The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2, the actress returned to her natural hair colour - blonde.

But the moment filming finished she dyed her hair a light ginger colour which has now evolved into a deep fiery red.

However she has remained a dark blond since, often with darker roots and lighter ends, until she debuted an even lighter shade on her new cropped style this week.
Angelina Jolie
In the last ten years, Angelina Jolie's hair has changed very little except for the highlights on her naturally dark mane. While in London during the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict she wore a reddish-hue.

When she was made an honorary dame by the Queen in October 2014, her hair looked considerably darker.
Kate Mara

But just ahead of awards season the star transformed her look with darker hair. “I had brunette hair actually all through high school, so I’ve always really loved this colour,” she said. Things lightened up once she hit the audition circuit. “When I started working and acting, they all wanted me to have blonde hair,” she says. Going back to her old colour for a role in the upcoming sci-fi film Z for Zachariah was a nice change, she said.
Julia Roberts

But in April 2013, she died her hair red for the first time having been inspired by her mum. "My mother is a redhead, so I thought maybe I could pull it off. If she could do it, maybe I could do it. I don’t know, I just thought that it would be fun," she said.
Kelly Osbourne
