The best hairstyles from 90s TV shows

Oh, that hair. Remember that hair? And remember that moment when you, and what felt like every other living woman between the ages of eight and 89 decided to go to their hairdressers, clutching a picture of Jennifer Aniston and demand The Rachel?

While we're sure some lucky few actually managed to pull this look off, sadly our naturally curly locks didn't like it, and instead of a cute choppy bob it ended up not unlike to Krusty the Clown's unruly mop (incidentally, never get a fringe when your hair is wavy either).

That aside, 90s TV was the best place for hairstyle inspiration, whether it was backcombing, crimping or just au naturel (Joey Potter, we're looking at you). Take a look below and if you're not desperate to style your barnet like Tiffani Amber Thiessen's circa Saved By The Bell, we suggest you have a word with yourself.

Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty) - 90210

The original 90210 had the ultimate girl next door types such as Brenda. Despite the fact she had a run in with some blonde hair dye, we always thought she looked better with brown bangs.

Maxi - Maxi's World

We'd practically forgotten about Maxi. Although she's a cartoon character, her bouffant hair puts Farrah Fawcett to shame.

Kelly Kapowski (Tiffani Amber Thiessen) - Saved By The Bell

Kelly's hair is the real-life equivalent of Ariel, AKA The Little Mermaid's, fringe/quiff.

Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) - Friends

If you need this one explaining, we suggest you leave right now.

Moesha (Brandy Norwood) - Moesha

Not just known for her singing, Brandy played the lead in Moesha and would often end up with a different hairstyle each week, if not several during one episode.

Angela Chase (Claire Danes) - My So Called Life

Interesting, and totally fake, fact: Angela Chase was single-handedly responsible for the sale of 90 per cent of red hair dye between the years 1994-1995.

Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel) - Boy Meets World

This is probably what you'd call 'princess hair'. However girly it was, we wanted to have it.

Patsy Stone (Joanna Lumley) - Ab Fab

Always accessorise this look with a cigarette and a bottle of vodka.

Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) - Dawson's Creek

Joey Potter was very natural, and that's why all the boys loved her. We longed to have hair that looked this good without us having to do anything to it, which, if you're wondering never happened.

Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

While she was fighting vampires, demons and having to kill her boyfriend (*sob* Angel! *sob*), she somehow managed to keep her locks impeccable and without getting a drop of blood on them.

Tia and Tamera Mowry (Tia and Tamera) - Sister Sister

Tia and Tamera had the kind of hair we used to dream about.

Blossom Russo (Mayim Bialik) - Blossom

Aside from the questionable taste in hats, Blossom's long bob was ace.

Marge Simpson - The Simpsons

Once again, cartoon manage to trump real people's hair. And no great barnets from the 90s list would be complete without Marge.

Lois Lane (Teri Hatcher) - The New Adventures of Superman

Forget any other Superman (or is that Supermen?), this was the only one we cared about. Not just because we fancied Dean Cain but because of his chemistry with Teri Hatcher's Lois Lane. Oh and that bob made us want to get into journalism.

Monica Geller (Courtney Cox) - Friends

Lest we forget that Friends also produced two other hair mavens. First up is Monica Geller, who was fairly fortunate in the locks department until she let Phoebe cut it. What ensued was a mix-up on Phoebe's part between Dudley Moore and Demi Moore. Thankfully, Monica ended up with a cute style (not pictured).

Phoebe Buffet (Lisa Kudrow) - Friends

Following on from the previous entry, here is Phoebe Buffet who rocked the hippie look until the final episode of Friends in 2003 *wipes away tear*.

Carole Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) - ER

Carole's curly hair would have looked rubbish on anyone else but she managed to pull this off. Plus, she married George Clooney (OK, not in real life but her on-screen husband was played by him).

Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield (Brittany and Cynthia Daniel) - Sweet Valley High

If you were fans of the books you probably devoured the TV series. Even now, we still know the words to the theme tune off by heart.

Sabrina (Melissa Joan Hart) - Sabrina The Teenage Witch

There was a LOT of crimping going on in Sabrina. Hey, it was a good look then.

Jackie Harris (Laurie Metcalfe) - Roseanne

Jackie might seem like a strange choice for us but there's good reason we've included her. Basically this: hipsterswhodresslikejackie.tumblr.com
