The cult skincare brand has finally expanded into bodycare. Stylist beauty contributor Chloe Burcham shares her honest thoughts on the three new launches after testing them out for a month…
When it comes to skincare, some brands are instantly recognisable. From La Mer’s iconic tub packaging to Clinique’s three-step system, it’s not often that a new brand launches and is an instant hit with consumers but that seems to be what’s happened with The Ordinary.
Since its launch in 2016, The Ordinary quickly became known for its ingredient-led skincare at accessible prices; at one point, it was even named the most popular skincare brand in the world. The line-up of straightforward skincare products offered a no-frills alternative in an industry that can sometimes seem oversaturated and confusing to navigate.
Having ventured into make-up (introducing a foundation that quickly became a cult favourite) and dipping its toes into haircare, The Ordinary is now set to enter the bodycare category with a new line-up that promises to bring the same efficacy and simplicity to our body routines.
The new bodycare collection features three simple but effective products, designed to cater to different skin concerns. Formulated with much-loved ingredients, including salicylic acid and niacinamide, there’s also an inulin-packed moisturiser – a prebiotic that helps to support the skin microbiome. As a beauty editor, I’ve been testing each of The Ordinary’s new products for the past month, and here’s what you need to know…
The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 0.5% Body Serum
If you’ve got blemish-prone skin, you’ll probably be well-versed in salicylic acid. A powerhouse ingredient known for its ability to gently exfoliate and unclog pores, this 0.5% body serum is perfect for targeting blemishes and uneven texture on the body. After using it for a few weeks, I noticed an improvement in the small blemishes on my chest that often appear after workouts. It’s also brilliant at sloughing away any patches of stubborn fake tan that won’t shift. There’s no irritation – just clearer, smoother skin.
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Inulin Body Lotion
I am incredibly fussy when it comes to body moisturisers, finding many too greasy or sticky. But as someone with dry, itchy skin, a powerful, fragrance-free moisturiser is a must. The Ordinary’s new body lotion is so incredibly lightweight, you forget you’ve even applied it, but the formula gets to work straight away, instantly nourishing skin. The inclusion of inulin, a prebiotic, helps to support skin’s microbiome, providing hydration and maintaining a healthy barrier, while ceramides and peptides help soothe and repair. This has quickly become my favourite body moisturiser and it’s one I’ll be repurchasing in the future.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 5% Face & Body Emulsion
If you’re regularly on the go, whether that’s staying at friends’ houses or heading to early morning workouts, this multi-use product is great to keep in your bag. I like to use it post-gym to soothe and hydrate my skin, and it works equally well on the face and body. Its lightweight texture absorbs quickly, leaving no sticky residue. Niacinamide works to reduce inflammation, brighten skin tone and strengthen the skin barrier.
