Does the slightest drop of moisture wreak havoc with your hair? Then I’ve got a must-try beauty hack for you…

In all honesty, I wouldn’t consider myself a particularly sweaty person. But what I will say is that I have a seriously sweaty head when the heat turns up. Whether I’m on the Tube, running around town or lounging poolside on holiday – the moment that mercury hits 20°C and upwards, the pores on my head, hairline and temples start weeping. And as soon as that moisture hits my scalp, it’s game over for whatever hairstyle I left the house with. Because not only does sweat make my cowlick curl and volume deplete – it leaves behind a not-so-desirable residue that’s only really solved the next time you shower and shampoo.

At 32 years old, I have suffered with the aforementioned sweaty hairline for many a summer holiday, never really knowing what to do about it. I avoid hats for fear that they will make my head too hot and result in sweaty-hat-hair for the rest of the day, and you’ll find me manically wafting my face and head the moment I step foot onto the Tube. But this summer, I discovered the perfect hair hack and it’s seen me through weddings, holidays, gym sessions and the hell hole that is the London Underground furnace.

The ultimate sweaty hair hack? Well, it’s using dry shampoo… but not as you know it. Because while applying dry shampoo once you’ve had a sweaty-hair incident might help to mop up any leftover greasy residue, it won’t fix whatever frizz or curl issues the added moisture left you with in the first place. So my dry shampoo top tip for summer is to apply it liberally before you even step out of the house.

Even if your hair is freshly washed – take your favourite dry shampoo and spray it liberally through the roots of your hair. For me, I pay particular attention around the hairline and temples, as I know that’s where I have most issues – but for you, this could be the back of the head or nape of the neck. Leave it for a couple of minutes and massage it in, before brushing it out.

Applying dry shampoo beforehand works so well because at the first sign of sweat, the dry shampoo will soak up any excess moisture – meaning it won’t even make it’s way to the lengths of your hair. It’s basically a deodorant for your scalp.

I’ve been spritzing my hair with dry shampoo ahead of numerous weddings and holidays abroad, and trust me – it works. Keep scrolling for some of my favourites…
