Want long-lasting make-up that won’t melt off your face come lunchtime? You’ve come to the right place…

Now that the sun is (intermittently) shining, the weather is warming up and the London underground is officially a furnace once again, it might be a good time to rethink our summer make-up routine. From panda eyes to blotchy foundation, if you’re tired of your make-up melting away by midday, we’re here to help.

But it’s not just about how your make-up looks. Excess oil, sweat, and layers of SPF can lead to breakouts, and navigating that balance between a fresh, dewy look and make-up meltdown can be tricky.

We spoke to celebrity make-up artist Buster Knight, an expert at ensuring make-up stays flawless under the harshest lights and hottest temperatures. Below, he shares his top tips and tricks to help you maintain a long-lasting, sweat-proof look – plus the products you need to ensure your make-up stays fresh all day.

If you’re worried about blemishes, the most important thing to remember is to remove every trace of make-up at the end of the day to prevent breakouts from forming. Incorporating exfoliating acids, like salicylic acid, into your routine can also help to keep your pores unclogged and prevent spots.

Kitsch Ice Facial Roller

When it comes to sweat-proofing your make-up, prep is key. “Using an ice roller before make-up can help your make-up apply better in the heat,” says Knight. “It tightens pores and cools you down – plus it feels seriously refreshing.”

Reeson No.1 Brush

“If your skin tends to get oily, don’t apply foundation with your hands,” advises Knight. “The excess oils on your hands can cause a build-up on top of your make-up – which in turn, makes your make-up break down faster. I always recommend using a brush or a sponge, especially in the summer months.”

E.l.f Halo Glow Powder Puff

“A powder puff is a great retouch tool as one side can absorb the sweat and the other can be used to press the powder into the skin,” says Buster. “I find that this tends to be a better technique than applying powder products with a brush.”

Wonderskin Longwear Eyeliner

“Wonderskin does great eye pencils that are perfect if you get sweaty or oily eyelids,” advises Knight. “Once they’ve set they do not budge. I also love the Wonderskin brow tint as it works almost like a temporary henna tattoo, so if your make-up tends to sweat off, this will last all day.”
