From the best sustainable buy to the fragrance we can’t stop spritzing, these are Stylist’s favourite beauty innovations of the year.
Products – including skincare solutions, make-up must-haves and haircare heroes – have always been central to the beauty industry. And today, product launches and new brands alike are increasingly driven by exciting technical and creative advancements, as well as shifting attitudes towards social responsibility.
When working on this year’s Best Beauty Awards, we wanted to champion these areas of the industry – areas that also align with Stylist’s DNA. Enter our new category: the innovators.
From carefully considered products that uphold sustainability credentials from formulation right down to packaging, to brands owned by women of colour that are driving the industry forward, keep scrolling to discover Stylist’s noteworthy beauty innovators.
Best New Beauty Brand: Prada Beauty
When Prada Beauty dropped, it caused ripples of excitement across the beauty industry. “It draws on the fashion house’s decades-long heritage, bringing with it splashes of colour housed in sleek packaging,” says executive fashion director Kitty McGee. The stand-out? Its range of lipsticks – not just for the punchy pigments but the design. Decorated in the same texture as Prada’s cult Saffiano leather handbags, the triangular bullets represent the label’s iconic logo while perfectly hugging the lips’ contours.
Boutique Beauty Brand of the Year: Ranavat
Ever since becoming the first South Asian Ayurvedic skincare brand to launch in Sephora and Harrods, Ranavat has gone from strength to strength. “Founder Michelle Ranavat blended her engineering and science background with the traditional beauty practices of her Indian heritage,” says Stylist’s beauty director Hanna Ibraheem. “The result is a line-up of effective skin and hair products incorporating high-quality ingredients sourced from India, such as saffron, jasmine and ashwagandha. It feels incredibly luxe, too.”
Best Black-Owned Beauty Brand: Dizziak
Loretta De Feo began Dizziak to fill a gap in the market. The entrepreneur set out to create something that was packed with hydrating ingredients, smells dreamy and looks good, all while catering to all hair types. The products flew, with the brand’s Deep Conditioner quickly earning cult status. Dizziak has since expanded into body care with a nourishing body lotion and gentle exfoliator, formulas the Stylist team can’t get enough of. It’s no wonder that Dua Lipa signed up as an investor last year.
Plastic-Free Beauty Product of the Year: Green People Shampoo Bars
Green People’s Shampoo Bars are a great shower addition if you’re looking to cut down on the amount of plastic in your bathroom caddy. Praised by Stylist contributor Amber Sinclair for their refreshing scents and ability to lather up well, they contain macadamia and argan oil to leave hair feeling silky and babassu oil to deeply condition (and subsequently cut out the need for conditioner). Plus, they go a long way: one bar equates to 60 washes.
Best Viral Beauty Product: L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Lift Mascara
When this mascara first launched, it was hard to scroll through social media without seeing it pop up on your feed – in fact, it has 33.4 million views on TikTok alone, prompting Stylist editor Alix Walker to dub it “the Beyoncé of mascaras”. Alongside a jet-black formula, it has garnered a lot of praise for its carefully considered wand. “The brush looks unusual – the plastic bristles are only on one side, but this allows you to get right to the roots of your lashes without smudges,” says Stylist Extra writer Holly Bullock

Best Sustainable Beauty Product: Voya Renewal Eyes 100% Organic Seaweed Eye Masks
Sea moss is the buzzy ingredient of the year, according to trend forecasters WGSN, which helps explain a spike in seaweed products. These eye masks are made from 100% organic Irish laminaria digitata (aka seaweed), which is hand-harvested and sustainably sourced. Not only has the ingredient been proven to aid collagen production and fight against free radicals, it also boasts serious hydrating and skin-soothing properties. Wear the masks for at least 20 minutes and when finished, pop them in your compost bin or a flower bed as compost.

Best Beauty Innovation: Function of Beauty
Take a moment to consider everything your hair goes through in a month. From ever-changing temperatures to heat tools and pollution soaked up on the daily commute, our hair often has fluctuating needs – yet we don’t switch up our shampoo and conditioner. Function of Beauty changes that with its personalised approach to hair care, providing specially designed formulas and ‘booster shots’ that can be added to products depending on your requirements that day.
Miranda Larbi, Strong Women editor, tried Function of Beauty’s curly collection and found that “the shampoo and conditioner duo felt luxurious and my hair felt more hydrated and nourished before I’d stepped out of the shower”. Stylist’s senior writer Amy Beecham, meanwhile, tested its straight hair range. “Other people have commented on how shiny my hair is after using it, and I think it helps bring out the natural lighter tones in my brown hair,” she says.
Best Fragrance: Lancôme Idôle Now Eau de Parfum
Fragrance is extremely personal. We all have our own preferences – but this Lancôme scent repeatedly scored high praise. It contains a blend of rose, orchid accord and Madagascan vanilla, which Stylist’s features director Meena Alexander describes as “the perfect signature fragrance with just the right balance of warmth and floral notes”. Meaning it works whether you’re heading to dinner at Mountain in Soho or a cosy movie night at Everyman. Then there’s the sleek, minimalist bottle, which Meena praises as “beautiful enough to earn pride of place on any dressing table”.
