Ready to spruce up your bob cut for summer? Look no further than this simple chin-length chop…

There’s no denying bob haircuts are everywhere at the moment. Whether you’re sporting a feathered bob or a bouncy 90s bob, there’s a style to suit every type of hair.

If you’re ready for the chop, especially in this heat wave, the Scandi bob is a sleek look that’ll keep you cool.

With clean and sharp lines, this chic bob is reminiscent of a timeless French bob or box bob, but with a Scandinavian twist. Naomi Watts, Rochelle Humes and Hailey Bieber have all been wearing the style, which sees no graduation in hairline – just one straight blunt edge.

Paul Percival, hair stylist and founder of Percy & Reed, explains that the Scandi bob is a straight, chin-length cut that’s ideal for all hair types. “The idea is that the thickness is even from root to ends,” he says. “If you do have slightly curlier or textured hair, it’s not a bad idea to have a few simple layers through in order to texture the wave and the curl to bounce a little bit.”

Scandinavian style focuses on finding beauty within simplicity, as seen in their interiors with neutral colours, natural woods and simple lines. Percival explains that in a similar way, the cut takes its Scandi name as “it’s supposed to be simple – a simple, symmetrical shape”.

How to style the scandi bob

There are various ways to style this stylish summer look, but don’t forget to add body and volume with some volumising mousse to leave the hair feeling soft with plenty of movement.

“If you have hair on the straighter side, a blow dry is a great way to style as you don’t want it to be poker straight or lose its volume,” Percival adds. “If you have more wavy or curly hair, it’s better to make sure you get your bob cut on drier hair so your natural texture is already there. As long as the haircut is finished dry, you can make sure the blunt ends sit really nicely when your hair has movement in it.”

“If you are diffusing a Scandi bob then less is more, meaning the less you mess with hair while wet, the better the result will be. Hold the diffuser against the hair to let it naturally bind its wave rather than scrunching.”

Pop in some serum to reduce frizz and you’ve got yourself the ultimate summer sleek bob, perfect for all your summer occasions. If this is the bob cut for you, don’t forget to take some photo inspiration to your hairdresser to show them the chic style of bob you want to sport this summer. Here are a few examples for your next salon appointment…
