Whether you’re after a subtle wash or a statement colour, there’s a shade of pink that works for you…

Remember five years ago when pastel-coloured hair was everywhere? From candyfloss pink to lilac dip dyes, it wasn’t unusual for at least one of your friends to try out a rainbow-inspired shade.

Fast forward to the last couple of years, and those bright and bold hair trends have taken a back seat. The ‘Clean Girl’ aesthetic took over and we entered our nostalgic 90s beauty era, meaning pastel hair was quickly traded out for more natural-looking colour. Think sunflower blonde and caramel balayage – soft, subtle and seriously low-maintenance.

But, as with all things in fashion and beauty, trends have a way of coming back around. This autumn, we’re expected to see pink hair making a serious comeback, and this time round – there’s a shade that suits everyone.

We spoke to two hairstylists who have forecasted pink hair to be huge this coming autumn. Christel Barron-Hough, founder of STIL salon and Tom Smith, celebrity hairstylist and trend expert, both agree that pink hair is back and it’s more versatile than ever. Here’s how to make it work for you…

2024 pink hair trend

According to Barron-Hough, autumn’s pink tones are expected to be all about embracing a subtle, earthy elegance. “This season’s pinks are inspired by pastel-toned sunsets, pink magnolia petals, and delicate rose quartz tones,” she explains. “There’s an organic vibrancy and tone to it, think dreamy, wearable and whimsical, perfect for those who want to embrace the pink trend in an understated way.”

But if subtlety isn’t your thing there’s a shade for you too. “A vivid and intense flamingo pink that glows in the light is something we’re seeing a lot more of,” explains Smith. This vibrant colour is all about making an impact, and despite its intensity, it’s a shade that fades beautifully, allowing you to gradually transition back to blonde if you decide you want a change.

“Ideal for those keen to make a bold statement, this intense flamingo shade is one to help you stand out. The hair needs to be pre-lightened to achieve this level of brightness, but the result is worth it,” says Smith.

Whether you’re looking for a soft pastel wash of colour or something striking and bold, here’s all the pink hair inspiration you need…
