Nothing says ‘put together’ like a fresh new set of nails, and the must-have style of the season is marble.

Similar to pearlescent nails, chrome nails and Hailey Bieber’s viral glazed donut nails, the marble manicure offers a shimmering finish with either a pop of colour or a host of complementary tones.

Celebrity manicurist Stephanie Staunton talks us through the eternal appeal of this versatile nail trend.

“You can go moody with depth or airy and whimsical,” she says of marble nails. “There are no rules; you can just play around with the look until you’re happy.”

The marbled effect is achieved through mixing different layers of nail varnish colours. 

“I create my marble nails using ink, but you can also use any nail colour mixed with a bit of top coat and blend through the base shade,” Staunton says. “Start from a corner and swish across to the other side, diagonally, and blend out.”

To elevate glamorous nails even further, Staunton suggests adding a touch of gold foil to create an even more impressionable finish.

If you’re trying to recreate this style at home, Staunton recommends using a non-quick-dry top coat, lip liner or nail brush art to achieve the effect. Mix up the colours on a piece of tinfoil and quickly apply it to the nails so it doesn’t dry too fast.

If you’d prefer to go to the salon, ask for marble nail art, and Staunton says to be prepared with inspiration pictures.

“Make sure you have the colours and vibe you’re going for first,” she says. “You can also ask for a cat eye design to give it some extra sparkle.”
