Nothing says Christmas quite like a red-lip moment. It doesn’t matter if you’re a clear lip gloss person for the rest of the year, the festive season is the best time to experiment with something bolder. 

As a lipstick obsessive, it’s the time when my lip collection really shines. Just like an advent calendar, there’s a different red lipstick for every day throughout December and, of course, I save the best for Christmas Day. Not only does it have to look good, but it also has to stay put throughout the Christmas lunch feast and many sips of red wine. Finding the perfect balance of feeling comfortable, durable and wearable is often tricky. However, this year I’ve cracked it. 

You may have come across Dior’s Rouge Dior Forever Sequin Liquid Lipstick going viral on social media for its twinkly sparkle effect as soon as you rub your lips together, and I’m here to tell you it’s worth the hype. 

Not only does the formula come in the brand’s iconic 999 (rich crimson) shade, but the sequin effect it provides makes it ideal for the festive period. It allows you to shine like the tinsel on your tree – and who wouldn’t want that?

I’ve tried many sparkly lipsticks in my time, and the effect either disappears after one swipe or flakes off around the chin area after nibbling a single Quality Street. Neither is ideal. 

This creamy formula doesn’t leave my lips cracking or chapped, and even better, the subtle shimmery effect doesn’t moult onto the rest of my face after a glass of mulled wine.

Considering how pretty the sequin effect is, it’s surprisingly fuss-free and easy to achieve. Simply apply like you would any liquid lipstick and smush your lips together to get the sparkles to appear. It’s not a Christmas miracle, but it’s a very smart formula.
