Rock’n’roll eyeliner dominated the BRITS red carpet – and we can’t get enough of the look

Eyeliner is officially back. From flicked wings to waterline eyes, here are some of our favourite eyeliner looks that we saw on the BRITS red carpet.

Last night, as music royalty descended on the o2 Arena for a night at the annual BRIT Awards, we noticed something particularly rock’n’roll about the whole soiree – everyone was wearing black eyeliner.

Apparently all the stars decided to get the London look last night. What’s interesting, too, is that we saw eyeliner in all shapes and forms. A few weeks ago, make-up artist Donni Davy (who is currently working on Season 3 of Euphoria as the show’s make-up designer) said that her big trend prediction for this year would be that eyeliner on the waterline would make a comeback. If last night is anything to go by, her prophecy has been fulfilled…

Eyeliner on the waterline

Charli XCX

Celebrating five wins after her Brat summer, Charli XCX wore a chocolate brown smoky eye created by Isamaya French. In classic Charli style, this was smudgy and effortless rather than polished. A brown wash of eyeshadow bled into a deeper black at the lash line, and the inner water lines were lined with black.

Millie Bobby Brown

Millie Bobby Brown wore a baby smoky eye created by make-up artist Buster Knight. Though her eyeshadow was reminiscent of a Y2K pop princess (fitting given her recent comments about wanting to play Britney Spears in a biopic), the jet black on her water lines gave this look an elevated feel.

Beabadoobee

Beabadoobee wore a fresh make-up complete with soft freckles and glossy cheeks, then lined her water line to give the look an edge. Keeping everything else simple drew attention to her eyes, more especially when she had used such a jet black shade.

Babydoll eyeliner

Chappell Roan

Dialling in to accept her first two BRIT Awards last night, Chappell Roan framed a sparkly silver eyeshadow with a crisp eyeliner flick and false lashes. She left her waterline clean, and framed her lower lash line with deeper eyeshadow to create a babydoll look.

Sabrina Carpenter

The queen of babydoll make-up did not disappoint with another beautiful make-up look created by her long-time collaborator Carolina Gonzalez. Carpenter wore soft creams and browns to create light and shade in her eyes, again leaving the waterline clean and accentuating the lash lines with a tracing of black.

Winged eyeliner

Jade Thirlwall

Accepting her first ever solo BRIT Award, Jade added a long eyeliner flick to the icy blue wash of colour on her eyes. The Stylist cover girl’s colour palette was very Y2K reminiscent, and the thickness of her flicks helped to balance her false lashes and create a doll-like make-up look. Luckily it didn’t move when she gave a touching acceptance speech and honoured her ‘Little Mix sisters’!

Paloma Faith

Presenting Charli XCX with her Best Dance Act Award, Paloma Faith kept her make-up classic with an elegant liner flick. This look was created by Lan Nguyen-Grealis, the same artist who created an entirely waterproof make-up look for Faith’s iconic BRIT Awards performance of Only Love Can Hurt Like This in the pouring rain 10 years ago.
