Do you often find yourself lying awake at night, scrolling in the glow of your phone screen until the early hours? Then listen up, because the people of Twitter have a tried-and-tested tip for you, and it all revolves around a shopping trip to Lush.

That’s right: social media users have been hailing a Lush body lotion “magic”, claiming it’s the secret behind their good night’s sleep.

One in three of us struggle to nod off at night, with reasons ranging from stress to failing to get enough wind-down time. However, the benefits of a good night’s kip should not be underestimated, as getting your eight hours of rest can help you perform better at work, lengthen your life expectancy and increase your resistance to medical conditions like heart disease.

So what’s a gal to do if counting sheep doesn’t work?

Well, if you’ve already given the usual sleep remedies a go, it might be time to take a trip to your local Lush store and pick yourself up a pot of the aptly named ‘Sleepy Body Lotion’.

According to the internet, this little product literally does what it says on the tub – which probably has a little something to do with the ingredients list.

The “dreamy body lotion”, as Lush describes it, is infused with gentle oatmeal and calming lavender flower which cools and enriches the skin – and lavender is famously associated with winding down after a long day.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, lavender has been shown to “decrease heart rate and blood pressure, potentially putting you in a more relaxed state”. In one study, researchers monitored the brain waves of subjects at night and found that those who sniffed lavender before bed had more deep sleep and felt more vigorous in the morning.

Another study of infants found that they cried less and slept more deeply after a bath with lavender scented oils.

Basing their product on this research, Lush confidently insists that their ‘Sleepy Body Lotion’ is “soothing and great for a calming the mind and aiding a restful sleep”. And it seems social media users would agree, with many taking to both Twitter and Instagram to share pictures and reviews of the body lotion.

“Y'all, sleepy lotion from @lushcosmetics is pure magic. Not even kidding. #lushcosmetics #lushsleepy #magic #happinessinajar”, wrote one user.

Another said, “Sweet dreams, I didn't sleep very well last night but I've got this magical cream up my sleeve #lushsleepy”.

On Lush’s website, the product has received 64 glowing reviews, with many of them waxing lyrical about its comforting smell.

One Lush enthusiast even felt that the lotion had helped calm her anxiety, “I used to take anxiety medication for 11 years and had to stop recently which was pretty terrible, but I found that using and smelling Sleepy can help my anxiety.

“It's such a relaxing scent and I love using it.”

Another agreed, saying: “I got given a sample of this and I am absolutely in love. It smells AMAZING. The smell makes me happy and relaxed and I don't usually like lavender but it's sweeter than normal lavender products.”
