Few things are more of a quick-fix, low-cost pampering than a warm soak in the tub. Even more so when our bath water is improved tenfold with a luxury product.
Back in our teenage years, bath bombs pretty much only crossed our minds when we were stuck for ideas on Mother’s Day, and we didn’t understand the power of a properly scented bath. These days we can’t get by without those sparkly balls of joy.
However, if you’re anything like us, you may love them but rarely remember to pick one up while out and about. In fact, when you really need a little pick-me-up, you’re generally sat at home in a bad mood, far from any bath-bomb-selling establishments.
That’s why we — and many other fans – are so excited about Lush’s announcement that it will be bringing its bath bomb subscription service over to the UK.
Didn’t know there was such a thing?
Lucky American shoppers can already opt for a subscription package for any of their favourite products when shopping online. As the US site says, it’s a convenient way to keep your home stocked with your favourites, “delivered fresh right to your door when you need them.”
And now, given we can already get wine, gin, flowers and any other night-in vitals dropping through the letterbox, UK devotees can get in on it too.
Exact details on when the service will be launching on the UK website are yet to be revealed, so watch this space.
Currently the US offers a flexible service, meaning customers can add a one-time delivery to their purchase or set up a standing order – which for everyday products like body wash and shampoo sounds pretty handy. You can also cancel or reactivate at any time, so if you’re going on holiday and won’t need this month’s supply of luscious smelling treats you can put your order on pause.
The only catch is that the product has to be permanently available, so limited-edition creations won’t be accepted for a standing order, obviously.
But, as some pre-subscription inspiration (and as an excuse to look at pretty things), here are five of Lush’s bestselling bath bombs.
Intergalactic
Lush says, “Ever wondered what bathing in deep space would be like? Invite the cosmos into your bathroom with this sexy, interstellar bomb and become the guardian of your own galaxy. An awesome mix of refreshing peppermint and neon colour sends your mood rocketing, while popping candy takes you on a trip around the Milky Way.
Constellations swirl and pop, creating vibrant lustre vortexes in the night sky. Before you leap too far, rogue layers of vetivert and cedarwood take hold, evoking the warmth of human contact far from home and a hint of 80s aftershave. Return from your intergalactic brief encounter as the grounding scent brings you gently back from orbit.”

Sakura
Lush says, “A celebration of spring, bursting into a floral fragrance. Inspired by the cherry blossom in Japan, this pretty bomb is designed to evoke the burst of optimism the first sign of spring brings. Calming mimosa and jasmine oils are complemented by lemon oil and orange flower to bring to mind the smell of this colourful season.”

Sex Bomb
Lush says, “When you’ve got that feeling - tired, stressed out and anxious - you need some sensual healing. The fragrant blend of jasmine, ylang ylang and clary sage will soon have you relaxed and feeling in the mood...
Jasmine is an ancient aphrodisiac, used as a sensual perfume in India for centuries and in aromatherapy to ease stress and anxiety. Clary sage clears the mind, while ylang ylang is renowned for soothing worries.”

Twilight
Lush says, “If sleep is evading you, this combination of essential oils will help get you ready for a good night's rest. As Twilight dissolves, it turns from the colour of the setting sun and gets darker, turning your water a shimmering deep purple.
The fragrance has been designed to help you sleep: lavender is a soothing, mind-clearing and calming fragrance, used in aromatherapy to treat insomnia and aid restful sleep, while benzoin and tonka call to mind a milky caramel malt drink.”

Butterball
Lush says, “If you have dry, sensitive or irritated skin, this is the bath bomb to replenish it. Once the cocoa butter pieces have melted, your skin will be coated by a light buttery film that smells good enough to eat. Ylang ylang is used in aromatherapy to treat stress and depression, as well as relaxing the nervous system, and relieves anger, panic and fear.”

If all this bath bomb talk is getting you over-excited and you can’t wait until the official subscription UK drop to get your hands on bathroom goodies, then there’s one last piece of good news for you: Lush will be doing a whole event dedicated to their most-loved products, showing off the creativity and innovative methods that go into making them.
The Creative Showcase is the place to be for Lush-lovers, taking place on Tuesday 5 September from 9am to 6pm in London. Throughout the day, Lush says you will be treated to, “a kaleidoscope of imagination, invention and innovation. Explore four spheres of creativity spanning music, product, film and technology.
“For one day, venture across the London landscape and leave your comfort zone behind. Immerse yourself in an alternate Lush universe where chaos and calm live side by side, driving inspiration and shattering convention.”
Tickets are £25 and can be purchased here.
Now excuse us, we’re just off to obsessively watch fizzing bath bomb videos on YouTube.
