Looking to update your hair this autumn? The Hollywood bob is this season’s latest It cut.
When it comes to hair styles, nothing is more beloved than the bob. Whether it’s a lob (long bob), a French bob (tousled and short) or the butterfly bob (layered and wispy), if you’re looking for haircut inspiration – there are plenty of iterations of the bob haircut, meaning you’re sure to find the right one for you.
This season, it’s all about the Hollywood bob. Slightly longer than your jaw-skimming French and more styled than the tousled shag cut, the Hollywood bob oozes elegance and style. It’s also a great hair length for if you’re transitioning between short and midi, and a lot of the finished look comes down to the styling – think lots of shape, volume and all-around va-va-voom.
What is the Hollywood bob?
“The Hollywood bob is an off the shoulder and below jaw cut, which makes it more versatile for different face shapes,” says Stephen Buller, co-founder of London-based sustainable hair salon Buller & Rice. “This style has a strong outline but soft texture within. Working with longer to medium length layers and some subtle layering throughout the front. Soft delicate layers are key, to showcase bounce and glamour seamlessly throughout.”
How to style the Hollywood bob?
The key to the Hollywood bob is volume and soft texture, which requires some attention when blow-drying. “Create volume with a round brush when drying – this will also help to set movement in the hair,” suggests Buller. “Make sure you move that brush in every direction to create maximum movement. If you’re struggling, ask your stylist for blow-dry tips next time you’re in the salon.
“Think 90s supermodel blow-dry with a mix of Hailey Bieber. It’s chic and playful. Be versatile with your parting for more volume, and try tucking your hair behind your ears to highlight your cheekbones and jawline.”
Which hair types are best suited to the Hollywood bob?
“As this style is focused more on the styling rather than the length, it gives you more freedom on your length choice, allowing the style to suit more face shapes and hair types,” says Buller. “If you’re looking for volume or want to create thickness then this is a great option for you.”
“However, if you have very thick or textured hair, it’s best to speak to your stylist about the best length and shape. Bobs tend to create volume and weight, which may not be best for you and your day-to-day hair management.”
