Low-maintenance bobs of different lengths got playful updates at New York Fashion Week, confirming that the ‘undone bob’ is not only the ultimate effortless hairstyle but will also be a major trend in 2025.
Designers kicked off the seasonal catwalk shows this week in New York, with brands including Khaite and Michael Kors showcasing their autumn/winter collections to an audience of buyers, press and VIPs such as Amanda Seyfried, Martha Stewart and Greta Lee.
Fashion was at the forefront, obviously, but beauty looks were also key. The standout hair trend from the week was the ‘undone bob’, which was spotted on several major catwalks but also off the catwalk, as Sofia Coppola, Isan Elba and Tory Burch showed off their hairstyles.
At Prabal Gurung, hairstylist Lacy Redway partnered with Tresemme for the show, showcasing looks that were all about an undone, lived-in texture. “They say the best nights leave the best hair – effortless, playful and full of attitude, like you rolled out of bed after a party and went straight to the runway,” explains Redway.
There was a variety of lengths, with models showcasing the season’s deliberately under-styled hair looks across collarbone-length styles at Coach to shorter cheekbone-length hair at Eckhaus Latta.
Calvin Klein Collection made a long-awaited return to New York Fashion Week. The collection was an ode to minimalism with a focus on wardrobe staples including the silk blouse, trench, shirt and square-toed flats, all in an urban palette of signature neutrals. Hair looks were undone but preppy, with models including Kendall Jenner showing off their effortless bobs.

Sandy Liang’s autumn/winter show, by contrast, was all about the fun of growing up: a playful mash-up of beautiful and unlikely items all layered on top of each other. There were preppy elements too, including shirts under knits, A-line skirts, tailoring and a take on the two-piece. Hair was very undone for the most part, with long and short bobs gently styled but looking very natural.
At Coach, Stuart Vevers presented a collection rooted in American influence and practicality. Silhouettes were long and fluid in a palette of tan, navy and black. There were baggy jeans, peacoats, shearling bomber jackets, dresses and bags that all nodded to the 90s. Many looks were finished with the Soho sneaker and playful charm jewellery, including earrings that resembled screwdrivers and wrenches. Hair was undone and lived-in with lots of texture and a slightly grungy, worn-in feel.
Halley Brisker, OLAPLEX Global Ambassador, explains: “New York is the city of pace and edge and with Brooklyn nearby there is often a playfulness to the bob. Above the jawline razor cuts, often with an air or diffuse dry finish for a hipness that is synonymous with The Big Apple.”
