The bubble bob has been seen on celebrities such as Maya Jama and Lucy Boynton. Here’s all the inspiration you need for getting this chic cut at your next salon appointment.
With everyone sporting this summer’s must-have hairstyle, a bob, it’s time to welcome a new variation to the scene, the bubble bob.
For those who aren’t fluent in bob cuts, this can vary from the ultra short nape bob (going up at the back to showcase more of your elegant neckline) to a chic French bob all the way to a nostalgic bell bottom bob.
The likes of Zendaya, Hailey Bieber and Maya Jama have ditched their staple hairstyles for this on-trend cut that offers volume, elegance and gorgeous face framing. So what’s so different about the bubble bob?
Mihaela Vatafu, Director Stylist at Taylor Taylor London’s Shoreditch salon explains the ins and outs of this latest trend and why it’s a versatile choice for all thin or thick hair types, as it can be styled sleek and straightened or bouncy and wavy with the right texturising spray.
What is the bubble bob?
The bubble bob has been given its name as it resembles, yes you guessed it, a bubble. It curves round the face and requires definitive ends to provide a sharp edge to the look.
“The bubble bob is a more voluminous take on other bob styles,” Vatafu says. “This cut has more emphasis on bounce and volume, and as per its name, mimics the look of a bubble.
“It is actually a really versatile haircut as the length can be adapted to suit your face shape and hair texture. I would recommend asking your stylist for their advice on the best length for your particular face shape and styling-needs.”
“If your hair is more on the finer side, ask your stylist to incorporate soft, invisible layers to best achieve the volume and bounce that the bubble bob is known for.”
All bobs tend to vary in length and shape, depending on personal preference. The bubble bob has also been said to suit every face shape, especially those with oval or heart shaped faces.
How do you style a bubble bob?
To achieve that bouncy bob, similar to the one Zendaya debuted at the Oscars, it’s important to get the styling routine down.
“This haircut needs a little more attention and styling to reinforce the bubble shape,” Vatafu continues, “I would recommend LØRE Originals Texture + Wave on wet or dry hair to enhance the natural shape and maintain volume.
“The ends need to be turned under to give the hair a more rounded shape to achieve the bubble effect. To achieve this, a medium round brush and hair dryer, or curling iron will do the trick.”
If you’re short for time, Vatafu says you can let your hair air-dry. Simply tuck the ends of your hair behind your ears to get that naturally rounded shape, especially around the front of your hair.
Now you know how to nail the bubble bob, here’s some photo inspiration to take to your next salon appointment…
