Looking for a spring hair refresh? This chilly blonde could be just the ticket.

For anyone after a light, bright colour to follow the long, dark winter, let us introduce you to spring chill blonde.

A cool-toned blonde that shines beautifully in the refreshing spring sun, this shade of blonde is the perfect mix of buttery and ashy, and we can’t get enough of it.

It’s versatile enough to suit the edgy and hyper-girly alike. As Larry King colourist Sophia Karayiannis tells Stylist: “Who doesn’t want an effortless blonde that still pops, giving the hair shine?”

Who suits spring chill blonde best?

Karayiannis says: “This look can be on the majority of people, whether it’s on edgy, 90s-era Drew Barrymore or Pamela Anderson in her Baywatch days.”

What you should know before lightening your hair

“When deciding to go down the bleaching route,” says Karayiannis, “taking into consideration the condition of your hair is a crucial part – you’ll have to be willing to commit to regular hair treatments, whether that means coming into the salon or putting one on yourself as a weekend chore. You’ll also want to invest in some nice shampoos, conditioners and heat protectors.

“Regular trims will be needed, but this doesn’t mean that you need to be worried about going a lot shorter. As long as you’re just having a small trim on a regular basis, then that’s enough to keep the hair nice and healthy.”

And what about curly hair?

“There’s no question that bleach can cause curls to drop,” explains Karayiannis, so you’ll have to prepare yourself for that.

“Curly hair tends to have a lot less moisture,” Karayiannis adds, “which means that when bleaching, you need to make sure you add more moisture than normal back into the hair. But this doesn’t mean curly hair can’t be lightened, it just means you need to take more precautions than you might on straighter hair.”

What should you ask for at the salon to get the look?

Karayiannis advises: “Ask them to go back to the base and add more highlights. This gives hair a boost and results in less of a root drag look, while keeping that modern twist. Melting the blonde enhances that seamless look.”
