If you’re after a low-maintenance haircut that still looks super chic, this is the ’do for you.
We’re all about embracing the texture and effortlessness of a feathered or frayed bob haircut. However, if you could combine the coolness of these bobs and embrace a sleeker look with minimal effort, we’d be on board.
The good news? That haircut does exist, and it’s been dubbed the ‘sliced bob’. It’s precise and blunt, hence the name, and it will be a game-changer if you’ve got finer strands.
“A sliced bob is a sleek take on the classic bob – it has sharp, precise edges and a slight A-line shape that is longer through the front than the back,” explains Cos Sakkas, Toni&Guy’s global creative director. “It’s usually worn polished rather than textured, and precise through the outline rather than choppy,” he adds.
Many chop a bob to spend less time styling their hair and end up finding it’s more high-maintenance than they planned, which is where this haircut stands out against the other trending styles. “One of the great things about the sliced bob is its versatility, which makes it so popular for spring/summer 2025. It can be worn smooth or with soft waves through the lengths for a more effortless vibe,” says Sakkas.
Its low-effort appeal is all down to how it’s cut. “The most important aspect of the sliced bob is the haircut – lines need to be sharp and blunt for this look to work. The haircut should do all the work, keeping styling to a minimum,” he says. Sounds like a dream, right?
Like with most hair trends, this cut draws inspiration from the past. “It’s a modern take on the 90s bob – think Posh Spice’s lob,” says Sakkas. “It takes influences from the 90s cool-girl, low-maintenance vibe but with a modern twist,” he adds.
As we mentioned, this will be a dream cut for those with finer hair to make it look fuller and thicker, but it’s also great for those with curls. “It can add definition and shape to curls, while softer waves work well with the precision haircut,” says Sakkas. He adds that the cut can be customised for your hair texture to add shape if you’ve got straight locks or bulk out finer strands.
According to Sakkas, the key to nailing this look is for the hair to look healthy and conditioned; otherwise, you won’t get the blunt shape you’re after. There’s a fine line between tousled and needing your dead ends trimmed off.
