Everything you need to know about the celebrity-approved nano bangs cut, including photo inspiration.
Have you been tempted to go back to the nostalgic block fringe that you used to rock as a teenager or are you curious to see if you might suit curtain bangs? It might be time to try a softer short fringe known as nano bangs. With the popularity of layers (think shaggy bobs) and feathery finishes, it’s no surprise that this light, choppy alternative to a straight fringe has gained traction.
Nano bangs offer a stylish slice of self-expression through the imperfectly perfect cut that has been sported by Miley Cyrus at the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, while Ariana Grande, Zoë Kravitz and Doja Cat have also debuted the trending look.
But what are nano bangs and how can you recreate the effortlessly chic look every day? Here, hairstylists share what to ask for at the salon and tell us how best to style nano bangs.

This ultimate statement fringe is a cool, modern twist on a block fringe that is defined by its short length and soft edge. It’s versatile and wearable and can be modified to suit any face shape or hair texture. “Nano bangs are the barely-there, ultra-short fringe that sits high above the brow – think cool, micro and intentionally imperfect,” says Samantha Cusick, founder of Stā Studios.
“It’s a little punk, a little editorial and totally 2025. They’re bold but wearable and pair perfectly with everything from a bob to a shag.”
Jordanna Cobella, founder of Cobella Salon, echoes that the nano bob should always sit “above the brows” to offer a “blend of nostalgia with high-fashion futurism. This year we are seeing a return to individuality and self-expression, moving away from hyper-polished styles to embrace effortless, personality-driven looks,” she adds.
“Nano bangs bring an instant cool-girl factor – whether styled sleek and structured or choppy and rebellious.”
How do you style nano bangs?
Though nano bangs sit effortlessly, they’re crafted with precision to achieve that textured edge. Quite often, the less is more approach works wonders here. When it comes to styling, keeping it simple is the best option. Cusick shares: “I love using a small round brush and the Ghd Helios Hair Dryer to lift and smooth the fringe.
“Finish with a dab of cream to give it separation without stiffness. They’re surprisingly low-maintenance and grow out beautifully into baby curtain bangs.”
What should you ask for in the salon?
Hairstylists will be aware of the cut, but to achieve the style you’re after, it’s best to be well prepared with pictures for your next appointment.
“Ask for a micro fringe that sits above your brows, with soft texture rather than a blunt, heavy line,” Cusick sasys. “Bring photo references because with nano bangs, a millimetre really does make a difference.
“And always chat with your stylist about your hair texture and face shape. We can personalise them to work with your features and your cut.”
